David's POV
My heart hammered so violently against my ribs I wondered if it might give out completely. The speed of it was dangerous, but if death came for me now, I would crawl back from hell itself to claim this moment.
Last night had been a blur of confusion and pain. When I kissed her then, it wasn't really me doing the kissing. But now, with her mouth pressed against mine, it felt like someone was breathing life back into my lungs. I could finally draw a full breath again.
The longer we kissed, the more her lips moved against mine, the more that dead part of me began to stir. Like something that had been withering in darkness was finally seeing sunlight.
My fingers tangled in her hair, marveling at how silky it felt between my fingertips. She kissed me back with equal hunger, her arms winding around my neck and pulling me closer.
