Leonardo did not take me shopping, like he had said.

Leonardo deployed me to a mall.

There is a difference.

The difference was the black convoy that pulled into the underground parking like we were about to raid a government facility instead of buying a phone. Three SUVs. Armed men. Earpieces. The kind of presence that screamed international crime in a place meant for overpriced coffee and people pretending they liked minimalism.

I stared out the window as the engine shut off.

"So," I said dryly, "do the mannequins get frisked too, or is that just for me?"

Leonardo didn't even look at me. "Don't tempt them."

A guard opened my door before I could even think about touching the handle myself. Leonardo's earlier warning echoed in my head.

From now on, you wait.

I rolled my eyes but waited anyway. Not because I agreed but because I wanted to see how far this performance went.
