Two days.

That was how long Leonardo disappeared.

No explanations.

No threats.

No commands murmured against my ear.

Just absence.

For a man who prided himself on control, he had perfected the art of vanishing.

The penthouse felt different without him. Too quiet. Too large. Like a museum where the most dangerous artifact had been removed, leaving behind only the echo of its power. Maria hovered like a nervous ghost, offering tea I didn't drink and meals I barely touched.

I paced.

I counted steps.

I stared out the windows until the city lights blurred together.

He took me from my family, ripped me from them, only to lock me inside a glass fortress and vanish?

Ridiculous.

If this was supposed to break me, it was doing the opposite. It was sharpening something ugly inside my chest.

By the time evening came on the second day, I was bored enough to consider rearranging his furniture purely out of spite.

That was when the elevator chimed.
