Chapter 7 - LIVE

The patient was vomiting sertise multiple times, he looked pale. He was in his mid-20's. There were doctors rushing to him. They ran multiple tests. Only to find out, he was suffering from colon cancer, a later stage. There was no way we could help him because it had metastasized in his body. We could just stand there and watch while he was suffering alone. His parents and his younger brother were still alive. So, here he was an orphan. The cries of pain and agony were enough to make us cry with him. I tried to control my tears but I couldn't. We gave him some pain killers to ease his pain. And just like that he took his last breath. I felt it was unfair. Even though we treated the dead, we had our limits. I thought death just eases suffering. But, this just made me realise that despite death, you can't escape life. He would be going to a higher stage where people who have died twice would be. I can just hope he finds peace there and lives a normal life. We still do experience the pain of seeing someone die again. I started to resent the deal. I went home to see my parents. Yes, I can see them now since I am in the land of the dead. My mom looked at me worried and asked what's wrong. I broke down and told her everything. She hugged me and said "But, you save lives as well." That line and the warmth of the hug was enough for me to keep going.
