Chapter 49 - Chapter 48-Halo Effect

Author's pov

The next morning

9am

Abuja Federal Prison

Locked away in the dark lonely cell of the Federal prison, Martin sat on the dusty chair in his cell with his head bent. His life was flashing before him and he just sat there thinking of ways to get of this mess. His thoughts were interrupted by a guard banging on his cell

"Someone's here to see you" the fat guard said grinning mockingly at him

The governor looked up to see Ola smiling at him, holding a black nylon

"Hey" she waved nervously

The governor smiled briefly

The guard opened the cell and let Ola in

"You've got only 59 minutes" he barked

"No problem Biggie, can we have some privacy?" She glared at him

The guard looked at her angrily before walking out

"Asshole" she glared at his big back

"You came to bail me out?" The governor sat up

"Um no, they refused to grant you bail. But Amir is doing everything he can, we've called your lawyers. They're handling everything so don't worry you'll be outta here soon"

She sat beside him and dropped the nylon on the ground

"I brought you some food" she looked at him

"I'm not really hungry" the governor looked away

"You need to eat..."

"Why are you here? Aren't you resigning? The president is going to arrest everyone connected to me" he asked her

"I'm not leaving you" she leaned closer

"You must be out of your mind, you've been working for me for some months now. Resign before they drag you into this mess, i can handle myself. You're too pretty to go to jail"

Ola almost scoffed, even in jail he was still a womaniser. She just put on a fake smile and held him

"I don't care, you're a wonderful governor and honestly I admire you" she paused, calculating the next words "yes I've heard about your evil ways but I don't care"

The governor looked at her in shock

"Hmmmm"

"I'm not really innocent governor, growing up in a poor family i swore to my dead brother that I'd do anything to get in power. The street cares for no one"

"Your point?"

"I'm loyal to those in power, that means I'm not leaving you governor. We'll come out of this and show the president that evil never dies" she smiled

The governor just looked at her suspiciously

"What exactly do you want Ola?"

"I want you" she leaned closer seductively "let me work for you, i know your little secret and I want to be a part of it"

The governor was both shocked and mesmerized at the same time. Guess everyone was really wearing a mask

"Be careful lady, you're swimming into deep waters. What do you mean you know my "little secrets"?" He asked

"News spread fast you know and it's not like it's a new thing anyways. Everyone in the Lagos state government knows how powerful you're and rumors have it that you're part of a powerful group" she said smartly

The governor nodded

"So you know?" He whispered

"Yes but I'm not here to blackmail you. I just want protection and power"

"I see. Well i can't give you that, you see the situation I'm in now" he pointed around the cell

"But your group will get you out right?"

The governor looked at her not sure if he could trust her

"I don't know"

"I'm sure they'll. I did a little research about your group and i must say I'm impressed.."

"Wait did you know about this before becoming my PA?" He looked suspiciously at her

Ola shook her head innocently "Of course not, i just found out this few months i started working for you. I overheard you talk to Amir about the oracle, my curiosity got the best of me so I did a little research and found out everything...well not everything exactly"

"And you're not scared that I could kill you?" He looked at her dangerously

"Nope, why kill me when I can work for you" she caressed him "i just want protection, I'm tired of being poor. Please"

The governor leaned into her touch

"This is a dangerous game kid" he whispered

"I don't care" she kissed him seductively

The governor pulled her closer, unable to resist her charm. Ola smiled inwardly and pulled away

"So what now?" She smiled

"Just do whatever Amir says, once I get outta here, I'm inform the oracle about you" he smiled back

"Good. Everyone's mask is off"

With that, they both kept quiet as the governor took the food and started eating slowly.

Few Hours later

"Get up governor"

The guard banged on the metal bars as the governor groaned

"What now?"

"The president is having a press conference and we're taking you there. Your little secrets are about to be exposed" the guard smiled

He opened the cell and dragged the angry governor out. They headed outside where the escorts were waiting, the guard led him into the back of the armoured van and they drove off towards Aso rock villa

MEANWHILE

ORACLE BASE FIELD

10:45

Members of the oracle are gathered round the table once again, facing the large computer screen which was broadcasting the Presidential press conference. Ada looked worriedly at a calm Kwame

"Whatever plans you have now, you better start saying it. The president is already investigating everyone connected to Martin and it's only a little while before he expose us" she said nervously

"Don't worry, nothing will happen" Kwame smiled

He turned towards Bawa

"Are the men ready to go?" He asked

"Yes" Bawa nodded smiling

"I've already contacted the vice president and other members of the oracle, everything will go according to our plan. The president won't know what hit him" Bawa chuckled like an evil genius

"Good and once everything is done, nobody would suspect anything and they'll pin all the blame on the purple Lagoon" Kwame nodded

"What about her?" Ada suddenly asked

"Just keep her hostage for now, we'll discuss the rest when we free Martin" Kwame said and then picked up his phone

He dailed a number and a dark voice picked up

"Ready?" He asked

"Yes sir, the president is already here"

"Good. Don't attack anyone else, just the foolish president" he warned

"Understood"

The line went dead and the dim lights in the room flickered off. The oracle vanished into the darkness
