"No, I just..." I stammered, the words dying on my lips.
I pressed my teeth into my lower lip, struggling to find the right response.
Watching Grey look so defeated moments ago had stirred something uncomfortable in my chest.
What if Evelin decides to walk away from me someday? Would she be just as resolute? I couldn't shake the thought.
"Listen, I genuinely have zero feelings left for Grey. You're my boyfriend—you need to have more faith in me and in yourself," Evelin said, clearly misreading my concern as jealousy over Grey.
I forced out a strained smile. Despite my usual composure, everything about her made my self-assurance crumble.
"Plus, I'm pretty cut-and-dried when it comes to relationships. When I'm finished, that's it. No looking back," Evelin continued.
I went rigid. She was obviously reassuring me that Grey was completely out of the picture.
Yet somehow, terror washed over me—like she might be describing how she'd leave me.
