Evelin's POV
My heart jumped as Jimmy suddenly pulled me against his chest, his arms wrapping around me like steel bands.
"Eve, don't you dare lie to me! You said those words, and now you can't take them back," he said, his voice breaking.
I ran my palm along his back while he held me with desperate intensity. "I meant what I said, and I'm not backing down. I won't change my mind about this, Jimmy. I love you!"
His expression softened, and a look of pure, unadulterated relief washed over his face as if he were hearing music from heaven.
I could see in his eyes that he'd convinced himself last night was already more than he deserved—a miracle he'd never earned.
Even if I'd only been caught up in the moment, or felt pity for his devotion, he would've treasured every second.
All he'd ever wanted was for me to hold him closer, need him more.
But now I was actually saying I loved him.
The disbelief and overwhelming gratitude crashed over him.
