Evelin's POV
I rushed to the military base as fast as I could.
The drone Rex had piloted years ago still contained its SD card, holding his old mission logs.
Watching the footage Rex had recorded, then hearing his voice play back from the recording, I lost all control. Tears welled up and streamed down my face.
It had been years. That was Rex's voice—the sound I'd longed to hear every single day.
"Some clips from Rex's mission are classified and can't be shared with you due to protocol. I hope you'll understand," the officer said.
"Of course, I get it," I replied, my voice shaking with raw emotion.
"However, the data we've retrieved confirms Rex's final mission was connected to the border wildfire from years back. He entered the flames during that operation, then the drone malfunctioned and went down.
Rex's been missing ever since," the officer went on.
I bit my lip hard, hands balled into fists, my entire body rigid with feeling.
