Margot's complexion turned ashen as she lunged forward, her fingers clutching desperately at my sleeve. "Jimmy, you can't treat me this way! I sacrificed an eye for you. How can you just cast me aside like I mean nothing?"

I regarded her with icy detachment. "Your eye wasn't lost because of me. You were trapped with nowhere to run. Given the chance, you would've fled without looking back. Haven't I compensated you enough over all these years because of that injury?"

Margot's frame shook violently. She looked like she wanted to lash out, but with so many witnesses present, what could she possibly say?

"But... my feelings for you..." Her voice wavered as she struggled to form the words.

My cold interruption sliced through her attempt. "Margot, I've never felt anything for you—not for a single moment. Everything I did was guilt over your injury. I've paid that debt in full."

With that, I pried her fingers from my sleeve and guided Evelin away from the scene.
