Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Who Should It Be Then?

Damn the Internet, damn the virus leak!

Looking at the footage on the monitor, the administrator's expression was gloomy. Fortunately, due to the leak, the concentration of the virus had dropped significantly, so wild mutants were unlikely to appear. The

mutants in the lab required high concentrations of the virus for targeted cultivation. If the spread of the virus wasn't concentrated enough, unless it was an individual with an extremely high viral tolerance, it wouldn't mutate.

And the appearance of such an individual was simply a waste.

As the concentration of the virus continued to decrease, even if someone entered the city, they wouldn't be infected, unless bitten or scratched by a zombie, or someone recklessly drank dirty water, or had their wounds come into contact with zombie blood... Surely no one would be that stupid?

Although zombies were mobile virus 'culture tanks,' the purity of the virus in their bodies wasn't high, so if someone was infected, they would only become a zombie.

As for Thorn... the administrator had saved the surveillance footage of Thor being attacked by mutants.

Bai Mu assisting Thor in killing the mutants wasn't worth his attention; it was just shooting at live targets, and he could do that with a gun.

The key is that Thorn ignored the infection. The virus contained in the mutants is far more potent than that of ordinary zombies, yet Thorn, despite being scratched, showed no signs of mutation.

And then there's the wound he showed—no doubt, Thorn is a one-in-a-million viral modification genius!

While a low concentration of zombie virus isn't strong, an ordinary person bitten, without a vaccine, has no chance of survival. If one can resist the virus's effects, there are only benefits.

Isn't the purpose of researching bio-viruses to develop biological weapons? Having withstood the virus's negative effects, all that's left is enhancement.

Thorn, this unique individual, coupled with his knowledge, will be highly sought after anywhere. At worst, he can just surrender; the military would never miss such a valuable asset.

A lousy organization that can't even catch its mole—whoever wants to stay can stay!

No mole? Without a mole, then he's even less likely to stay.

"Hmm…and these few others, the test subjects from other labs? They're all lucky; they weren't affected in the first wave of infection from the virus leak." The administrator looked at the files of Bai Mu and the others, muttering to himself.

The data was minimal, just a name, number, and medical examination results; nothing else was needed.

Once inside the lab, they were just guinea pigs.

Seeing the additional figure on the external surveillance camera, the administrator immediately perked up.

"Finally here!" He stared at Thorn on the monitor, repeatedly confirming his presence. Without antibodies, this time would have been enough for Thorn to turn into a zombie several times over.

The mutated virus was highly virulent.

But Thorn on the monitor appeared perfectly normal; no doubt, this was the one-in-a-million virus carrier.

Bai Mu and the others were just incidental additions.

The administrator didn't intend to take advantage of the situation; he still needed them to get him out of there, otherwise, he'd be finished once the No. 16 nuclear bomb fell.

Although the lab had its own power supply, he didn't need to worry about electricity.

"Can you hear me? Don't rush in… Oh damn, take that decryptor away! I'll tell you the password!" Seeing Thorn pull out the decryptor, the administrator panicked.

He recognized it; it was something from the organization!

"Then hurry up and tell us." Thorn stared at the camera turned towards them, his tone unfriendly.

"Phew~ You'd better prepare before opening the door. That mutant is dangerous, even stronger than the ones you've encountered before... It's alright, you can get ready now."

The administrator, who had already experienced a fierce battle, immediately calmed down after seeing the weapons Bai Mu and the others had taken out.

The bio-mutant's strength was indeed very high, but that strength depended on the comparison. If that thing was hit head-on by a heavy weapon, it would still die. To withstand modern heavy weapons, a bio-mutant would either need to stack armor or build up its size and health, relying on its tenacious vitality to fight against heavy weapons.

The normal way to use biological weapons like bio-mutants is in conjunction with modern weaponry.

Powerful mutants can carry several times the combat load of ordinary people and maintain superior mobility compared to soldiers; their tenacious vitality allows for a higher margin of error.

A normal soldier would find it difficult to continue fighting after taking one shot, while a bio-mutant, even after taking several shots, could still maintain sufficient combat capability as long as no vital organs were attacked.

Therefore, the weapons Thorn brought were more than enough to kill a bio-mutant. Even if the mutant possessed some intelligence, it was ultimately an out-of-control weapon.

"The mutant is very fast. You'd better be careful when you open the door. Set the bombs to trigger-activated..."

"Shut up!" Thorn stared at the camera irritably, raising his gun: "Try saying another word!"

The administrator fell silent. After Thorn had set the bombs, he spoke: "Make some noise after opening the door. I'll warn you when the mutant gets close."

"Stand back." Thorn held a remote control, which was used to detonate C4. The Claymore mines he brought were both tripwire and remotely triggered, hidden on the side of the entrance.

He entered the password provided by the administrator, and the laboratory entrance opened. Thorn fired a few shots inside without hesitation.

The gunshots attracted the zombies on the street, who began to gradually gather around.

"I'll deal with the zombies outside." Bai Mu grabbed his gun, went to the window, jumped out, and started firing at the zombies. Accuracy didn't matter; there were enough zombies to keep hitting their targets.

The zombies wandering inside the lab heard the commotion and rushed out, only to be shot dead by Thorn as soon as they reached the entrance.

Matt and Buddy glanced at the entrance and joined Bai Mu in clearing the zombies outside. The gunman, Eller, was a sharpshooter; he assisted Thorn to prevent any accidents.

"Watch out, the mutants are approaching!" the administrator's voice came from the security camera, this time deliberately lowered.

The mutants possessed some intelligence; letting them hear could lead to trouble.

Thorn calmly continued clearing the zombies pouring out of the passage.

The voice rang out again: "It's stopped..."

Thorn frowned, quickly glancing at the wary Eller, and whispered, "Fire together, remember to take cover immediately after the pause."

  "Okay."

Eller, being a seasoned gold digger, immediately understood and began clearing the zombies. After a moment, their gunfire ceased.

The remaining zombies surged out, and just as they approached the entrance, an even faster figure used the zombies as cover to rush forward.

The speed was so incredible that even Usain Bolt would gasp in awe, and scientists would exclaim in disbelief—how could flesh and blood move at such speed?! Boom!

  Thorn pressed the remote control.

The mutated creature that had rushed out was reduced to fragments in a double explosion. Eller, caught in the shock of the explosion, was completely disoriented; his ears were ringing, and he was temporarily paralyzed.

He didn't even have the urge to curse. He never imagined that such a small, seemingly insignificant 'explosive' could have such power!

The white curtain outside the house also looked a bit uncomfortable. He quietly removed the stuffing from his ears.

Matt and Buddy exchanged a glance, still shaken. When Thor installed the C4, he didn't ask anyone for help and completed the installation alone. Matt had even thought Thor had used a little less 'explosive.'

They had several large pieces of that stuff in the car they drove here, but only used 'a little' here?

The explosion now terrified him. If all the explosives in the car had been used, they would have been completely affected outside. No wonder Thor had made sure to open every possible opening in the house when preparing the explosives.

The world in the alternate dream was too dangerous, no, it should be said that the weapons here were too dangerous.

"Are you alright?" Thor helped Eller up. Eller's head was still buzzing and he couldn't quite hear Thor's words.

"You rest first, I'll go check the scene." Seeing that Eller still needed to rest for a while, Thor took his gun and went to the scene of the explosion. There were other materials added to the C4, and there were shattered shelves on the ground.

Those shelves were prepared in advance for cover.

The explosion site was a mess; scraps of flesh and bone were scattered on the walls and floor. In the close-range explosion, the mutants couldn't surpass the limits of carbon-based life forms and turned into mutant scum.

"You're a real warrior." Bai Mu, who came in from outside, patted Eller on the shoulder and praised him sincerely.

Eller rubbed his ears hard, still shaken: "How could that thing be so powerful!"

"If it wasn't, why didn't he let us help when he was setting it up?"

Eller was speechless. It was true; he shouldn't have thought his marksmanship was good and chose to stay and help. If he had gone out with Bai Mu to clear out those zombies, he wouldn't have suffered like this.

Looking at the explosion site, Eller felt that Bai Mu's choice to do that wasn't just due to Thorn's caution.

"This thing is really dangerous. We'd be in trouble if we didn't get blown up." Bai Mu, wearing gloves, picked up a claw from the ground. The claw, nearly ten centimeters long, seemed to tear through bulletproof vests with ease.

"You're quick," complained the gunman, Eller, glancing at the wall beside him. A claw-like piece was stuck in the wall, but it was firmly embedded and couldn't be pulled out without tools.

Bai Mu rinsed it with water and stuffed it into his pouch. "Whoever finds it first keeps it."

"Don't waste time, we're going into the lab," Thorn's voice came.

They immediately stopped talking. Matt and the others thought there was a chance for extraordinary abilities here, while Bai Mu was thinking about what to do next.

Thorn was like the protagonist in the team, making them seem like mere supporting characters. But against zombies, having a protagonist charging into battle was good.

But things wouldn't be so different after they found the vaccine and left. And Matt and the others' ideas were also quite dangerous.

How could they confirm the virus's effects on them, and the vaccine's effectiveness?

Of course, they'd have to test it on someone! The natives of the Otherworld weren't enough, so who should they test it on?

Thorn was immune to the virus, so it couldn't be Bai Mu, could it? Hahahaha—
