Eight days. Eight long, exhausting, confusing, strangely educational days since we crossed into the far southern reaches of the kingdom.
In eight days, I had: passed dead villages where homes were burned into skeletonscrossed farmlands turned to ash, the soil dry and cracked like old bonehelped dozens of families with wounds, fevers, broken limbs, and terror in their eyesfought six small wolf beasts, one nearly taking my armcarried crying children and crying grandmothersburied more dead than I could mentally tally
…but apparently the most traumatic thing I endured was listening to Lady Seraphine explain the difference between Marvel superheroes and DC superheroes at two in the morning.
And she did all of this—every rescue, every healing attempt, every battle reaction—while sassing everyone in a five-mile radius.
