Nyx heard Raziel's steady breathing beside her as soon as she woke up. Carefully, she pulled herself from his arms and walked to the window looking out at the peaceful Pride Lands below.
"You're thinking too loudly." Raziel mumbled from the bed. "I can feel your anxiety from here."
"Sorry." Nyx didn't turn around. "I didn't mean to wake you."
"I was already awake. I was just pretending not to be because I knew the moment we both are awake, the chaos would start." He sat up, running his hands through his hair.
As if summoned by his words, someone knocked at the door. Raziel groaned.
"I hate being right."
"I know you wanted to rest, but the hybrid council is becoming insistent. Also, there's a situation in the eastern settlements that needs immediate attention."
"Give us ten minutes." Raziel said.
"You have five." Kira replied. "The eastern situation is escalating."
Nyx and Raziel looked at each other.
"So it begins."
