Chapter 5
Fiona's Pov
I was in my room when someone opened the door, it was Mason.
"My Grandma's back" he said and shut the door. I slowly got up and went downstairs to meet her.
"Heyyy Ivy! How're you doing " she said wearing a lovely smile on her face.
"Hi" I greeted with a smile also.
"Are you ok"? She asked.
"I'm fine" I replied.
"Hope Mason didn't cause any trouble for you"? She asked taking a glance at Mason.
"Grandma..... he whined
" So I'm guessing you did then" she said facing him.
"Um....what would you like for dinner Ivy" she asked turning to me.
"ummmm...I don't really know.... anything is fine" I replied.
"How about pizza Grandma? Like we do every Friday night".
"Is that ok for you Ivy"? She asked.
"Sure" I replied.
"You don't have to agree 'cause Mason said it".
"No...it's fine". I replied.
"Alright, Mason place an order" she said and Mason proceeded to where the telephone was.
"So Ivy, how did your day go? Did you go out"?
"Um...actually I did and I don't know if its ok by you but I took a job". I said slowly looking down, I didn't know how she'd react considering the fact I didn't discuss it with her first.
"A job"? She said clearly surprised.
"Now, why would you wanna do that dear? You're still very young and you're free to stay here till whenever you like... I'll provide whatever you need, you don't need to see it as a favour you should repay".
"You hardly know me ma'am and I'm just a stranger, you were kind enough to let me in and I wouldn't want to be a burden" I said.
"A burden? Now come on Ivy.... look I see you as my own grand child and don't you ever feel like you're a burden ".
I nodded my head nervously as her words hit through me but still I needed to provide for myself.
"I would still like to continue schooling and have some money left to cater for my needs, I can't put it all on you"
"Oh my child! ..... she said and paused
"What kind of job is that"?
"It's a server job, and they pay per hour and It's got shift.... so even if I'm in college I can still work part time and it's just around the street".
"If It's what you wanna do then its fine by me".
It's been two days since I started working and I was happy to be doing something with my life other than cleaning. I was working as usual, when i heard my name on the TV. I looked around and luckily no one was paying attention, the camera was on my father. He looked stressed and by his side was my stepmother, as usual she was faking it. "Where ever you are... please come back home, I miss you... we all miss you". My dad said on TV.
I was beginning to get nervous, what if someone paid attention and recognised me?
"What are you doing"? The manager said jotting me put of my thought.
"I... I....." I stammered nervously.
"There are orders to be taken, get to work! Don't just stand there! There's a customer on table 7 take his orders" He said and left almost immediately.
I quickly got out of the counter silently praying he didn't look at the TV and luckily he didn't.
I got to table 7 and held my pen ready to take orders.
"What can I get for you sir"? I asked.
He lifted his head up and for the first time I was starstruck, how can a guy be this.... handsome??? Did he fall from heaven?
"I'd like an expresso please" he said and continued with whatever he was doing.
"Is that all sir"? I asked and he nodded then I left.
After my shift, I got home and Mason was playing video games.
