Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 Descendants of the Dragon

Dany... no, this is the vengeful spirit of Princess Daenerys!"

Ser Willem Darry was beginning to doubt if his eyes were playing tricks on him.

Amidst the raging inferno, the tiny figure of a baby was so real!

The baby's cries sounded exactly like a vengeful spirit claiming a life!

"Your Highness, this is all my fault. May you rest in peace!"

Ser Willem Darry wept bitterly, his legs collapsing to the ground with a thud: "I will avenge your death!"

Thump-thump-thump!

Just then, Admiral Ser Joffrey finally rushed over with the Royal Navy, accompanied by Varys, the Master of Whisperers, and Maester Daniel.

Listening to Daenerys's agonizing wails from within the inferno, everyone's eyes widened in fury, glaring with rage.

What kind of enemy could be so cruel as to burn an innocent baby alive?

The usurper, Robert Baratheon, was truly shameless and despicable!

Ser Joffrey took a deep breath, his gaze sweeping around.

He only relaxed when he saw Viserys unharmed.

Then, he knelt on one knee before Viserys, blaming himself: "Your Majesty, I am guilty. I fell for the usurper's trick to lure the tiger from the mountain, causing Your Majesty and Princess Daenerys to suffer!"

Before he finished speaking, he slammed his fist into the ground, and blood immediately seeped out.

"Alas!"

Maester Daniel shook his head helplessly.

He understood Ser Joffrey's grief and indignation at this moment, but such self-mutilation would not help the situation.

Watching the towering flames, radiating intense heat, everyone had to retreat dozens of steps further.

Faced with such a blaze, even a torrential downpour would struggle to extinguish it quickly, let alone human efforts.

Any soldier who approached the inferno would instantly turn to ashes within moments.

However, after a long while, the cries of Princess Daenerys Targaryen still persisted from within the raging fire.

Everyone's initial grief gradually turned into a sense of terror.

These cries, no matter how they listened, felt eerie!

"Brother... Sister... Wuwu... Wah—!"

Rhaenys Targaryen got goosebumps, and her hands clutched Viserys's sleeve tightly, refusing to let go.

Earl Randal Tarly also frowned deeply, staring intently at Viserys Targaryen.

Everyone said: Viserys Targaryen was a "prophet" who knew everything.

Then, this ambush from the usurper might well be the result of Viserys's deliberate indulgence!

Could it be that he was using his sister's life to perform some unknown dark magic?

At this thought, Randal Tarly shivered all over, terrified.

The thought of the former mad king Aerys sent a chill down Randal Tarly's spine.

Listening to the eerie cries coming from the inferno, Ser Joffrey and Ser Willem Darry's eyes were filled with confusion, and they kept looking at Viserys, trying to get a reasonable explanation from him.

In an instant, everyone in the square of the Dragonstone Great Hall fell into a dead silence.

Everyone uniformly looked at Viserys Targaryen.

Facing everyone's gaze, Viserys Targaryen awkwardly scratched his feet.

He could only steel himself and walk to the fire, shouting loudly into it: "Dany, come out! Brother is outside!"

Suddenly, the small red figure in the inferno seemed to tremble, then quickly rushed towards Viserys Targaryen.

Seeing the red "vengeful spirit" coming at them, everyone recoiled in fear, afraid of being tainted by this inauspicious thing.

"Your Majesty, be careful!"

Ser Willem Darry trembled with fear.

Despite his terror, he instinctively pulled Viserys back, personally shielding the new king.

"It's alright, this is my sister!"

Viserys Targaryen smiled and shook his head.

Compared to everyone's fear of the unknown, Viserys Targaryen felt much more at ease.

Rather than worrying about the scorching flames, Viserys was more concerned that the mercenary Bronn might harm Daenerys Targaryen!

Faced with Bronn's hostage-taking, if Viserys had not shown a decisive, ruthless resolve to abandon Daenerys, Bronn would not have given up his hostage so easily.

Viserys was betting that Bronn valued his own life more.

How could a mercenary who loved money not value his own life?

"Dany—"

Seeing that Daenerys was already close to the edge of the inferno, Viserys Targaryen took off his robe and rushed in.

"Your Majesty!"

Ser Willem Darry was greatly alarmed.

He never imagined that his new king would be so impulsive.

However, the next moment, Viserys Targaryen rushed out, holding Daenerys, looking disheveled.

Seeing this, everyone quickly gathered around.

They were concerned about Viserys's injuries and even more eager to understand the truth about Dany in the inferno.

Looking at little Dany, whose body was scorched red, the nobles present all widened their eyes in disbelief.

After being burned by such a massive fire, Princess Daenerys only had such minor injuries?

Swish, swish, swish!

Everyone's gaze shifted again, staring intently at Grand Maester Daniel, who had come to examine Princess Daenerys.

"Cough, cough..."

Grand Maester Daniel became a little awkward.

Seeing their expectant gazes, he could only lower his voice and whisper: "Princess Daenerys has no signs of burns; the redness of her skin... is due to her being frightened and crying!"

Upon hearing this, everyone gasped.

"A miracle... This is a miracle!"

Ser Willem Darry's voice became shaky: "The Seven Gods are protecting her!"

"To hell with the Seven Gods, this is the protection of R'hllor, the lord of light!"

A follower of the lord of light interrupted him, displeased.

He raised his hands high, looking up at the sky and exclaiming: "This is a miracle from the lord of light!"

Before he could finish, Viserys Valerion, standing nearby, kicked him down: "To hell with the Seven Gods, this is a miracle of the Targaryen Family! If I'm going to believe in anything, I'll believe in the Dragon God!"

"Exactly, it's the Dragon God. The Targaryen Family are descendants of dragons!"

"Descendants of dragons!"

"Gods bless the Targaryen!"

...Accompanied by the loud shouts of the crowd, the morale of the Dragonstone warriors surged to a high again, sweeping away the gloom of being confined to Dragonstone for nearly three years.

"Your Majesty, your burns still need to be treated quickly!"

Compared to the excited soldiers, Maester Daniel had not lost his basic rationality.

He whispered to Viserys.

Although Grand Maester Daniel found no signs of burns on Daenerys, he keenly noticed the scalds on Viserys's body.

For an ordinary person, Viserys's injuries were already extremely fortunate given such an inferno.

It was clear that not only Daenerys but even Viserys had great immunity to fire.

"Hmm!"

Viserys Targaryen nodded, then turned and followed Maester Daniel into the nearby Stone Drum Tower... The great fire burned for three full days before being extinguished by the moist clouds and rain blown in by the sea breeze.

Inside the Stone Drum Tower,

Looking at Viserys, who was bandaged all over, Ser Joffrey hesitated repeatedly before speaking: "Your Highness, we can't delay any longer!"

"Dragonstone's supplies are nearing depletion, while the usurper's strength is growing daily. With this waxing and waning, I fear we won't be able to wait for the Hatchling Dragon to grow up!"

Ser Joffrey's face was filled with worry.

It had been three years, three full years, and the Hatchling Dragon was only slightly larger than a puppy.

To wait until it was large enough to conquer cities and territories, wouldn't that be waiting until the cows come home?

If not for the deterrent of Viserys's "prophet" status, like a Sword of Damocles, many ministers would probably have already harbored thoughts of rebellion!
