Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Snake and the Rat

Your Highness, Dragonstone is indeed not a place to occupy for long!"

Maester Daniel nodded in agreement.

Frankly speaking.

Dragonstone lacks people and resources, it doesn't even have the most basic mineral resources.

If not for the active volcano that dragons love to live on, it could almost be said to have no advantages whatsoever.

And Viserys's army has been stranded here for three long years.

During these three years, Viserys Targaryen has issued almost no commands, other than frantically mining dragonglass.

The Royal Navy fleet, which initially frequently went out to blockade Blackwater Bay in King's Landing, has now fallen to the point where it must defend Dragonstone to the death.

Not to mention, House Tyrell's army is now completely annihilated, and the neutral nobles of The Reach have all pledged allegiance to Robert Baratheon.

It is an undeniable fact that Viserys Targaryen's forces are isolated on Dragonstone.

"The supplies plundered from King's Landing and Lannisport are about to run out, and even the royal family's centuries-old accumulated treasures will be depleted!"

Varys, the Master of Whisperers, echoed.

Seeing his ministers propose this unanimously, Viserys also knew it was time for him to make up his mind to leave here.

"Alright, then we will leave Dragonstone,"

Viserys Targaryen pondered repeatedly before speaking gravely.

As soon as he spoke, everyone's eyes lit up.

After waiting for three whole years, everyone finally arrived at this moment.

What did everyone support Viserys Targaryen for? Wasn't it just the hope that after the war's victory, they could be granted titles and positions?

"When will we attack Westeros Continent?"

Ser Willem Darry was overjoyed.

However, the next moment, Viserys Targaryen's words were like a basin of cold water, completely extinguishing the flicker of hope in everyone's hearts.

"We will leave Westeros Continent and establish a base across the Narrow Sea!"

"What? No, absolutely not!"

Ser Willem Darry almost suspected there was something wrong with his ears.

How could a king be so cowardly as to voluntarily abandon his own territory?

Although he was just a rough man and didn't understand strategy!

But he knew that leaving Westeros Continent meant completely abandoning his vassals and giving up his legitimate status!

Hearing this, Lord Randal Tarly's face also changed drastically.

"No wonder Viserys has not advocated attacking the continent for the past three years; it turns out he is a coward!"

Randal Tarly had risked losing his fief to join Viserys with House Tyrell.

He never expected that Viserys, with a large army at his command, wouldn't even have the courage to resist the rebels head-on!

In an instant, his gaze towards Viserys Targaryen became incomparably cold.

"I object!"

Lord Randal Tarly said coldly.

He, the Lord of Horn Hill, would never abandon his people and flee ignominiously across the Narrow Sea.

"Me too!"

Walder raised his hand in agreement.

As a noble sent by the Riverlands' Luanhe City, his purpose was to bet on both sides of the iron throne; how could he invest far away across the Narrow Sea?

Immediately after, countless nobles who supported Viserys instantly wavered and opposed him.

Watching everyone's opposition, Varys remained silent.

Although he didn't know Viserys's true intentions.

But thinking that Viserys could see the secret in the flames just like him, Varys couldn't muster the slightest will to resist.

He even suspected that Viserys and Daenerys were reincarnations of true gods.

Unburnt, is this a power a human should possess?

Searching through the ancient texts of Westeros Continent, Varys could not find any records.

Aside from the special bloodline power to control dragons, the Viserys siblings had each displayed powers that the world simply could not comprehend.

Varys believed that this hidden power even surpassed Aegon the Conqueror and would thoroughly change this chaotic and disorderly world.

Viserys Targaryen was not surprised by the objections of the crowd.

To the common people and nobles of the kingdom, who the king was didn't matter; what mattered was who could bring them benefits!

In other words, whoever stood against their interests was their sworn enemy!

However, today, Viserys Targaryen had no intention of compromising.

What did Aegon Targaryen, the Ancestor Dragon of old, rely on to conquer the world?

Unrivaled dragon power!

Even so, for the stability of the dynasty, Aegon Targaryen ultimately compromised.

For this, he left behind quite a few hidden dangers.

These problems continuously plagued successive Targaryen kings in later generations.

A vassal's vassal is not my vassal, a lord's lord is not my lord!

Even the Faith of the Seven from the Citadel in Oldtown dared to stir up trouble in Westeros Continent, and even once nearly succeeded in assassinating Aegon!

The reason, no more, no less, was that the deterrent power of the dragons was not comprehensive enough!

But Viserys believed that the next deterrent would be enough to make all the maesters and nobles willingly kneel at his feet.

Because — winter is coming!

"Those who are unwilling can leave immediately; I will not stop them!"

Viserys Targaryen said coldly.

Compared to having a host of two-faced, unreliable, and mixed nobles, he would rather have only a group of not-so-powerful but sufficiently loyal subordinates.

In the original story, who did Daenerys ultimately lose to? Was it Jon Snow's betrayal, Varys's treachery, or the dwarf's deception?

None of them!

Daenerys Targaryen lost to human nature!

If there had been even one loyal and brave subordinate present, whether it was Jorah Mormont or Daario Naharis, Daenerys would not have suffered such a terrible defeat.

In this world, only love is innate and cannot be obtained through effort!

All love obtained through material possessions and effort is merely a transaction!

"This…"

Hearing Viserys's firm and unwavering reply, everyone present fell into deep thought.

A Dragon King with dragons, a hegemon who almost occupies the entire Westeros Continent, who will have the last laugh?

"I am willing to follow Your Majesty to Essos Continent!"

The first to voice support was surprisingly Viserys Valerion, the newly elected commander of the Dragon Guard of Dragonstone.

"I'll go too!"

Varys raised his hand and echoed softly.

With their initial support, the hesitant Crownlands nobles also nodded in agreement.

Even so, many nobles remained silent.

Among them, Lord Randal Tarly was the foremost.

His expression was constantly changing, and after much hesitation, he finally spoke: "Your Majesty, House Tarly has guarded Horn Hill for generations and has never changed! Please forgive me, but I cannot leave my homeland for Essos!"

As soon as he spoke, everyone's pupils constricted, and they turned to look at Viserys.

Ser Joffrey even drew his longsword and held it to Randal Tarly's neck, questioning: "Lord Tarly, are you rebelling?"

"Let him go!"

Viserys Targaryen frowned and sharply rebuked Ser Joffrey.

He would never force anyone.

The old powers of Westeros Continent were long overdue for a reshuffle!

He turned around and said coldly: "Is there anyone else? All of you, leave together! The next time we meet, we will be enemies!"

Seeing that Viserys had agreed, many opportunistic nobles from The Reach hurriedly followed Randal Tarly's footsteps and left.

In a short while, only a handful of nobles from the Crownlands remained serving by his side in the dilapidated great hall of Dragonstone.
