Chapter 19 - A fragile illusion(1)

Vincent POV

Carrying all the bags she had bought made me question my decision to take her out in the first place. At some point, she had clearly decided that I was her personal servant. It annoyed me more than I cared to admit. Still, beneath the irritation, there was something else. Watching her relax, watching her let her guard down, showed me a side of her I had not seen before.

She had been careful with everything she did, measured and restrained, but there were moments when her control slipped. I caught her smiling more than once, especially when she picked out clothes for our unborn child. Those smiles were unguarded and real, and they unsettled me more than I wanted to admit.
