Chapter 37 - Perception(3)

Upon reaching the bright place, Lucius and Roanoke looked around for any traps and Lucius also doubled his sniffing on the air to find out if they are being poisoned once again but they did not sense anything odd. There really was just a dead end here and a room good enough for someone to fight in, like an arena.

Turning to look at Lucius, Roanoke shrugged upon sensing that nothing was amiss with his perception something. Lucius as well, he also did not sense anything amiss even though his Perception is weaker than Roanoke's.

"Seems like this is the dead end"

"Might be so....."

They conversed as Lucius let out a disappointed sigh upon realizing that there was nothing in this place and their efforts was all futile.

Then all of a sudden, without Roanoke's knowledge, Lucius felt a sudden itch in his back as he instinctively move to the side.

As he moved to the side, the two of them then heard a sharp howl in the air as they both saw that there was nothing in there....yet their perception also told them that there was something and there was nothing.

"What was that?"

"I fucking don't know. Did you feel it too?"

"Feel what?"

"The danger!"

As Lucius cried that out, the itch then transferred onto Roanoke's nape, as the guy dodged by ducking and swiftly moving away from that spot.

"Yeah, I think I got it"

They both frowned once again as the sound of something sharp cutting through the air was heard the moment Roanoke dodged it. Then their perception was disrupted once again, they both felt that there was something in there yet there was nothing.

"Was this what you meant when you said you could feel the itching?"

"Yes. Did you finally get it? You would feel like something is going to hit you so you dodge?"

"Yeah and it is shitty"

"I agree"

They both exchanged words as they dodged the something that was not in there like a pair of madman.

"What the fuck is this, really?"

"I fucking don't know dude. My perception have been going on and off now"

"I think it is invisible..."

Lucius uttered the last words which made Roanoke pause for a moment and then continue dodging the nothing and also hear the sound of something sharp cutting the air.

"Yet we did not catch it with our perception"

Roanoke replied as Lucius couldn't dodge anymore and decided to use his spear to parry the nothing and then he felt it. He felt a sword colliding with the shaft of his spear.

"It must be something stronger or it has the ability to evade our perception!"

Lucius growled as he pushed the invisible opponent away and Roanoke also nodded on his words, diving into a deep thinking and trying to speculate on how to beat this nothingness.

"Any ideas on how to beat this one?"

"I don't fucking have any aside from running away"

Lucius replied which made Roanoke let out a nervous chuckle and then continue parrying the incoming attacks using Flesh Eater and the sound of metal clanging was soon then heard.

"If we run, our training would just be useless"

"Fair point. So let's die then"

Lucius replied sarcastically. The two of them then stood back to back to repel any incoming attacks, while Lucius also started to think up of a way to counter with this monstrous nothingness.

Together with Roanoke, they ransacked their brain for ideas while also constantly defending themselves from the nothingness.

'Our perception has been going on and off at this thing, we know it is there yet it will be gone right after. Come to think of it, Lucius did say something about Perception....it is being spatially aware, yes. But I did not notice the poison, yet I felt that there was something wrong. Lucius did not feel that there was something wrong but he smelled the poison earlier'

With a frown, Roanoke continued to ransack his brain, even throwing a huge sword swing to have an area of effect attack and destroy the invisible foe, but he felt it not colliding with the invisible foe but just the passage walls.

'The itch that I have been feeling and knowing where the attack will land.....is this what that arrogant brat has been feeling? It is indeed different from perception which is just being spatially aware....but Perception is useless now against someone who can evade it! So how will we beat this guy?'

Lucius also ransacked his mind together with Roanoke and even used a named attack just to catch this invisible foe.

"[ Dance of Cockatrices ]"

It was the attack that he used against Roanoke. He delivered a thrust covered in purplish mist towards the nothingness but he felt it not colliding, only in the air, creating a sharp whistle.

"Okay, screw this."

Roanoke cussed as he dropped his stance which earned him a glance from Lucius who also did the same. They both sighed in resignation, but they did not give up. They instead smiled to each other and had ideas on what to do.

"Yeah, We are facing a troublesome opponent. But who said we cannot beat this?"

"Might be yourself."

Roanoke chuckled as he threw that sarcastic remark towards Lucius who just glared at him. The two of them then started stretching their neck, then facing against the nothingness infront of them. They closed their eyes and maximized their senses.

"I'm gonna use you as my stepping stone for strength. Right here and right now, I will grow stronger"

Lucius uttered which earned him a snort from Roanoke who finally took up a stance. Then with their maximized senses, they saw it....they saw nothing.

"Cornball"

Roanoke replied with a snort.

There was nothing ahead of them but there was something, they pictured it ahead of them as they saw a man holding a sword. The man then raised a sword ahead of them as he rushed forward.
