Chapter 1 - The Selection

Everytime a person has reached the age of adulthood or has come to an age, they would be brought to the Sacred Hall to receive the blessing that the Gods have given to them.

There is no one who has not received a blessing.

"I heard the Enidryll household's 3rd son who is known to be a prodigy will also be receiving his blessing today"

"Really? Ahh, I guess I can give up the pipe dream of being chosen by Arcanus"

"I know right? He will for sure get chosen by Lord Arcanus instead..."

Inside the Sacred Hall which was filled with teenagers, Commoners gossiped about a certain nobility as the other noble kids who are of the same age as them also decided to listen in and heave out disappointed sighs.

Most of the teenagers gathered in this hall today had expectations of being chosen by Their patron God, Arcanus....but hearing about some 'prodigy' joining into the selection, they could not help but be discouraged.

"The Selection is now starting, when your name is called...Please come up to the altar for prayer!"

The only adult in this hall yelled as his voice reverbrated all throughout the hall. As the teenagers who have reached a certain age are the only ones allowed in this Hall, the authority of the Bishop of Arcanus—The only adult here— was absolute.

"Albert Winston!"

The Selection has now started, and teenagers whose name was called out soon then approached the altar and knelt down for prayer. The first kid was someone who had a scholar vibe on himself.

He knelt down on the altar as light soon then poured out onto the crown of his head.

[ "Albert Winston has received the Blessing of Mirthia, The Goddess of Wisdom" ]

A pristine voice echoed in the hall as awe struck onto the teenagers gathered in the hall right now. Everyone who saw that was shaking in anticipation as they all waited for their turn.

"With the blessing of wisdom being bestowed upon you, you must serve the Empire with your wisdom."

The Bishop commended Albert as Albert took the words to heart and was deeply grateful, before he then left the hall and the Bishop called another person once again and did the same to others.

"Azriel Lauven!"

"Yuri Arghain!"

"Viole..."

...

The calling out of names went on for so long and everyone received amazing blessings until the Bishop finally called the main star for today, the one who everyone in the hall talked about.

"Rauke Enidryll!"

As that name was called out, everyone focused towards the teenager who exuded so much dignity. The Teenager had a golden hair which was styled on a slick back. The way he carried himself made him look like he was a king. Although he was only from a county, the fact that his aura was that great made him a big deal.

Approaching the altar, he stared at the bishop with a solemn gaze, and the Bishop who received that gaze...smiled.

'The Chosen one is finally here'

Uttered the Bishop inside his mind as his heart was filled with glee. Prompting Rauke to kneel down on the altar, he had started the prayer together with Rauke.

As Rauke then started praying.

'Dear Lord Arcanus, please choose me...so I will live up to the expectations of my family'

He prayed seriously, as the bishop prayed together with him sincerely. It took half a minute, then a minute passed, then 10 minutes....nothing happened.

"Hm? Why is nothing happening?"

The Bishop muttered as he shot a glance on Rauke. Rauke also wondered what was happening as he started to get confused.

"Are you praying?"

"Ah yes...I also addressed the Lord Arcanus. According to the guides"

Hearing Rauke's innocent answer, The Bishop was left wondering for a moment before he opened his mouth again.

"How about you try another God?"

Hearing that, Rauke thought that he might not have been chosen by their patron God. He was not disappointed at that so he prayed to other Gods. But nothing happened. He called out every Gods....nothing happened still.

In cases, if ever there is no one chosen by a God, it would mean that...They are [ Cursed ] and would bring nothing but chaos.

"I-it can't be...."

The Bishop's mouth was hung open as he was shocked to what he just witnessed. His pupils trembled as he was filled with rage.

"YOU ARE [ CURSED ]!!"

He cried out while pointing his finger at the flabbergasted Rauke as murmurs soon broke into the Hall.
