Chapter 3 - The Chosen One

Staring at the disappearing figure of Rauke Enidryll, I let out a chuckle. I looked at the Bishop who is now in a hurry to chase after that guy.

I stared at the Bishop talking to the Knights outside and heaved out a sigh. Insane guy, he looked like he really wanted to kill Rauke. What did Rauke even do aside from being Cursed? Not like he committed a crime prior to that. Truly...these guys are more racist than the people in Earth.

I don't understand why they brand people not blessed by Gods, evil. Yeah, I guess some guy in the past indeed tainted the unchosen like that. But isn't it entirely because the people blessed by gods tormented the unchosen as to why the unchosen became [ Cursed ] or evil in the first place? "Villains aren't born, but made" as what most of the novels in earth said.

I recalled the face of Rauke earlier, and as I recalled it...I couldn't help but feel something aching in my chest. Is it guilt? Or heartbreak? Sounds gay.

I thought of suppressing him at first but seeing him look so desperate as if he was afraid of something...I just couldn't do it. I might be a coward after all. I mean, we had been friends in the Academy for a long time—We've only known each other for months—. I don't even know if he considers me as one, he always had that stoic look on his face as if he is just a puppet. But still did not change the fact that I deemed of him as my Rival and my friend, so I could not bring him to ruin.

Anyways, snapping out of my thoughts. I saw the Bishop finish talking to the knights outside as he went back up to the altar to resume the Selection Ceremony.

As though the thing about Rauke did not happen, The Bishop quieted everyone in the hall down, as murmurs stopped and the ceremony was resumed.

"Next up. Lucas"

As soon as I heard my name being called out, I then walked towards the altar. There are no pressuring stares thrown at me, as everyone in the hall was still not over with Rauke's incident. Yeah, even me still cannot get over it Haha.

The Bishop gave me the instructions that he also gave to the others before me, as I then knelt down in the altar and prayed.

'Uhhh hello Gods? Please bless me with something?'

I prayed on the altar as a voice soon then entered my head, a pristine light of purple and white poured unto my crown.

Then it did not end with just that....as another light poured down, it was a red light with a hint of gold.

What's this? Some party?

"W-what..."

Listening to the someone beside me, I shot a sidelong glance towards the Bishop beside me and saw his expression being filled with awe.

Umm, what is happening?

[ "Lucas has been blessed by The God of Stars, Arcanus" ]

[ "Lucas has been blessed by the God of Flames, Pyro" ]

[ "Lucas has been blessed by the Goddess of Life, Ariandel" ]

Soon then, I heard the voice once again as I felt some warm sensation enter in me. I felt some sort of strange vigor enter my body. Okay what kinda fuck up plot armor is this.

"T-THE CHOSEN ONE HAS COME!"

The Bishop beside me cried out in glee, and I could even see genuine tears coming out of his eyes. What a freak.....are fanatics always like this? This is on another level.

Anyways, I don't know what was happening but I did feel an information coming in my head.

[ Blessing of the Stars:

—By night time, where the stars are bright. You can never be affected by other blessings. ]

[ Blessing of the Flames:

—You have been blessed by the flames, you will never ever feel the heat of the sun or the desert. You can produce flames out of nothing and control it with your will. ]

[ Blessing of the Life:

—You will never suffer wounds as you can heal yourself ]

Woah, pretty straightforward.....especially the last one. And what the fuck? How is this so op? This should be banned what the heck. I should be nerfed! This shit isn't fair! But oh well, it is what it is. Thank you Gods, i guess?

Heaving a sigh, I turned to look at the Bishop who is now kneeling beside me and worshipping...me? What the heck? Stop that you creepy fuck.

With a frown, I made the Bishop stand up to his feet as I also looked at my peers who are cheering for me. Shouting things like

"WOOH! THE HERO IS BORN!"

"HERO LUCAS!"

Okay genuinely, please stop that. It's cringy.

But the cheers only grew louder, and I could not help it but just listen to it and also follow the instructions of the Bishop who, instead of sending me away, decided to call for the other clergies inside the Sacristy and escorted me out.

I guess....I will now earn my knighthood or probably even a noble title? I always wanted one. After all, I have a family to take care of.

17 years ago from today, I found myself in the body of an infant. If I remember correctly, I died in my previous life. My name was....I cannot recall my previous name. But I did remember that I was an orphan who like any others, worked to get into college only for me to become an office worker. I died from overwork and found myself a new life in this place. Now this is not any cliche novel where I transmigrated to a novel that I was reading. I am actually just clueless about this world, that is why I lived here for 18 years and worked hard to earn a lot of money for my family.

And it seems like now, I am going to achieve it. I will finally help my family. But the journey ahead will be long. The Chosen One huh....The journey ahead will really be long.
