Chapter Thirty-Two: Breakfast with Nadir
Angel woke up slowly.
Not because she felt rested, but because her body didn't dare stay asleep.
Her eyes opened to the same pink ceiling. The same soft light. For a second, she almost hoped everything had been a nightmare.
Then the door opened.
She stiffened immediately.
Nadir stepped in like he owned the air in the room. Black clothes. Calm face. Hands relaxed at his sides. He looked like someone about to start an ordinary day.
"Good," he said. "You're awake."
Angel sat up, pulling the blanket to her chest without thinking.
"You didn't drug me," she said quietly.
He smiled a little. "No. I like it when you're aware."
Her stomach turned.
He didn't come closer. Instead, he leaned against the wall like he had all the time in the world.
"Get dressed," he said. "We're having breakfast."
"I'm not hungry."
"You will be."
She shook her head. "I don't want to go anywhere with you."
Nadir tilted his head. Studied her.
