Elisabeth's POV
The search team had pinpointed the crash site on some remote island that didn't appear on any official maps. Two bodies recovered from the wreckage, but neither belonged to Javier or Jefferson. My chest tightened as Gordon delivered the update, his voice carefully measured. The manifest confirmed both men had been aboard, yet no trace of them remained at the crash site.
Despite the uncertainty gnawing at everyone else, something inside me refused to accept the worst. This invisible thread connecting Jefferson and me still hummed with life. Whatever that bond was, it whispered that he was breathing somewhere out there.
What worried me more was this creeping sensation that danger lurked just beyond the horizon. The cryptic warnings from the Fearsome Threesome had left me guessing whether the threat targeted me or him.
All I wanted was for him to come back safe.
Back to where he belonged.
