Jefferson's POV
Donovan's statement struck me with the force of a physical blow, each word embedding itself deep in my chest. The ancient chamber felt suddenly frigid, the luminous etchings on the stone walls seeming to fade as though responding to the electric tension crackling between us.
"Explain yourself." My voice dropped to a dangerous whisper, razor-sharp despite its quietness. "How is Elisabeth connected to any of this?"
That insufferable smile never wavered from Donovan's face, his midnight eyes sparkling with secrets I desperately needed to uncover. "She is connected to everything."
The single word sent ice racing through my veins, a coldness that no amount of rage could thaw.
My remaining composure shattered like glass.
"What do you mean by everything?" I snarled, my control slipping. "If you have information, share it. Enough with your cryptic nonsense."
