No sooner had the thought crossed their minds than it happened.
The juvenile fish that had been hesitating outside the cavity moments ago seemed to receive an unseen summons from the larger fish—some silent command issued out of thin air. In an instant, all hesitation vanished. They surged forward in a frenzy, pouring into the chamber without the slightest pause.
Their assault was so ferocious that they didn't even bother lining up. Instead, they piled atop one another, stacking like a grotesque little hill, clogging the narrow entrance that could accommodate at most four or five juvenile face-fish at once. In a single breath, they flooded in.
Then, wildly flailing their short, thick reptilian limbs, they charged forward like miniature assault tanks, locking onto the two men and launching their attack.
…Fuck. They can do that too?
