Chapter 3 - Part 3

Lea, the ever logical mother she was, had a sinking gut feeling that something was wrong, yet she couldn't put her finger on it. Her gut feeling had never led her astray, and thanks to her spirit, it was strengthened to help her natural talent for leading. It had started small a few years ago, but had slowly grown into a raging alarm in the back of her head. It had calmed ever so slightly before turning into a cold warning. While it had lightened a few days ago, it was not getting better either. She had theories, but while they were probably correct, they weren't what was causing her unease.

Are you forgetting someone?

It was a simple question that her spirit had placed in the back of her mind. She went through her mind noting every concert, recital, companion, and play, she had made room for them all. She had made sure the chore list was fair and even so each kid learned responsibility. She made breakfast for every kid, so what was she missing?

What about dinner?

That stopped her musing in its tracks. Dinner, always prepared when she got home. Always warm when she needed it, always waiting. She had always been too tired to notice, too tired to even think about anything other than eating in her room, then falling asleep on her bed. Too tired to notice the occasional time the person that made dinner sat alone at the dinner table, waiting for the rest of the family. The gut wrenching feeling of guilt filled her as she tried to process how she could possibly have overlooked her youngest son like that. She realized that she didn't even know what he was interested in!
