Not long after the two finished their idle conversation, the aircraft had already landed atop a building. Rather than calling it an estate, it was more like a factory.
At the very least, Zhou Yi could smell strange chemicals and disinfectants in the air. The place teemed with security personnel and searchlights, making Zhou Yi think that whoever lived here must be a coward pretending to be fierce. In his eyes, truly powerful people should possess calm composure—unshaken by wind or rain—just like himself.
Nissa stood up, adjusting her appearance as she slipped on a ring engraved with a crest and draped a fur cloak over her shoulders. She made no attempt at closeness with Zhou Yi, as though their earlier conversation had never happened. She simply motioned for him to follow her, her expression indifferent.
Zhou Yi disembarked and paused to survey the surroundings. His dark armor blended almost perfectly into the night, the Dawn emblem on his shoulder the only thing that stood out. The black cape drifted in the night wind; light armor plates wrapped around his strong frame, giving him the appearance of a panther lurking in the dark, stalking prey. Dressed like this, he would stand out anywhere—here even more so.
To humans, the Knight of Dawn was a crime-fighting figure, a hero who cleansed evil. In recent days, he appeared whenever villainy ran rampant, descending from above to strike down those who disrupted order and endangered innocent lives. Together with the NYPD, he helped crack numerous major cases. Both the media and the public held this newly-emerged superhero in high regard—though of course, they still grumbled about his insufficient appearance rate.
To vampires, however, the Knight of Dawn's infamy rivaled that of the veteran vampire hunter—Blade.Blade's fearsome reputation was built blade by blade, bullet by bullet, over countless battles. He hunted vampires tirelessly, like a machine, day after day, year after year. Over a decade of slaughter forged the terror of his name.
The Knight of Dawn was different. To vampires, he was like a freshly launched intercontinental missile. In just three outings, hundreds of vampires had died. Surveillance footage showed nothing but a burst of blazing light as over a hundred vampires turned to ash.
Such methods made some senior vampires suspect that humanity was preparing to tear apart the fragile peace treaty between the two sides. Do not be fooled—hundreds of dead vampires may seem nothing compared to the tens of thousands Blade had killed.
But Blade's number came from ten years of work. The Knight of Dawn did it in three nights.
Even humans—numbering in the billions—would be thrown into international crisis if hundreds died in three days. So the vampires around them looked at Zhou Yi with strange expressions—fear mixed with hatred.
Zhou Yi, however, didn't care about the thoughts of ants beneath his feet. He followed Nissa straight into the building. Inside, the security was even stricter, and the secrecy devices even more elaborate.
Nissa walked to an elevator with a cold face and placed her slender palm onto what looked like a fingerprint scanner—but it wasn't. It was a far harsher bone-DNA verification system. Five thin needles extended one after another, like a hand slowly opening its fingers, and drove deep into the joints of her palm.
Zhou Yi could clearly see the frown drawn onto the usually expressionless beauty's face. Clearly, using this device was far from pleasant. Zhou Yi wanted to say something to her, but in the end said nothing. They simply stepped into the elevator as it opened, and it shot downward into the depths, delivering them into a chamber surrounded entirely by stone walls. Inside, aside from the elevator, stood a single mechanical device full of vampiric design.
Nissa took out a cylindrical object and inserted it into the device's slot. As it descended, heavy mechanical grinding filled the room. A wall slowly split open, revealing what lay behind it—a massive metal gate. Its size was no less than the one in Zhou Yi's own laboratory, though unlike his—which required manpower to open—this one ran entirely on machinery.
As the gate fully opened, Nissa introduced with a hint of pride,"Before you is the true face of the Vampire Empire. This is where the real power of the vampire race lies."
Zhou Yi had no idea what was going through this woman's mind. She had seemed intelligent and rational. But an empire? A joke. All he saw were decrepit vampires and filth that should never see the light of day. Their existence was an insult to life itself.
Activating his super-vision, Zhou Yi saw much more than what she described, and things became interesting. Was Nissa deliberately exaggerating, or was she herself being kept in the dark? What were these old things plotting? Zhou Yi didn't know—yet. But he had to admit, such conspiracy-laden scenes deeply intrigued him.
Beyond the modern metallic antechamber, the interior behind the gate was styled like an ancient castle. Stepping inside felt as if they had entered one of those decaying medieval fortresses. At the center stood something just as decayed—a figure with his back turned, flipping through an old tome atop a stone lectern.
At his side stood a respectful black butler, and three men wearing wary expressions. Among the three, one was an old man, and the other a thin fellow who looked like a car mechanic—both unimpressive, unable to draw attention from Zhou Yi or the vampires.
But the third man was different—a stone-faced black man wearing dark sunglasses and a long black coat. His tall, muscular frame made the coat appear bulky—but not merely because of his physique. Anyone experienced would recognize the bulges beneath the coat: blades, guns, bombs. Fully armed—no exaggeration.
Zhou Yi believed that if a fight broke out now, this man alone could hold the battlefield for five minutes straight. He was a killing machine—and fortunately for humanity, his targets were vampires.
This was Blade, the world's most renowned vampire hunter—a man whose legend rivaled Van Helsing, a nightmare figure who made vampires tremble.
When Nissa and the armored Knight of Dawn entered, everyone reacted differently. The vampire lord—the master of this castle—kept reading, as if he hadn't heard anything.
But his butler visibly tensed up, eyes locked onto the Knight of Dawn, muscles coiled and ready.
Among the three other men, the old one inspected Zhou Yi with a scrutinizing gaze; the mechanic-like man watched with amusement, occasionally studying the Knight's armor with clear interest. Blade's reaction was simpler—he tilted his head slightly. With those sunglasses, no one could tell what expression lay behind them. But Zhou Yi understood: a man like Blade had only two categories—enemy or kindred.
Clearly, Zhou Yi belonged to the latter.
"Father…" Nissa said, but was cut off by the vampire lord. He lifted his hand, turning to reveal his true appearance—like a corpse soaked in formalin for decades and dressed in an ancient noble's robes. Ridiculous and grotesque, yet chilling.
"Allow me to introduce my master," the vampire butler announced solemnly."The leader of the Vampire Directorate, the Supreme Duke of our race—Elder Makinos."
After his butler's ceremonious introduction, the vampire duke extended a frail hand. Nissa immediately supported him. Only then did he speak:
"Welcome to my castle. We vampires have a saying—take pride in your enemies and revel in their accomplishments. By that measure, I should thank you."
The enemy of a hero is a hero. Before doing anything, this decrepit vampire already cast himself as the final boss. His pretentious attitude and arrogant tone were laughable. Zhou Yi had no idea what foundation this feeble arrogance stood upon—and the old fool was even pleased with himself.
"You think you're worthy of being my enemy, vampire?" Zhou Yi couldn't endure the theatrics any longer. He smiled coldly as he stepped forward and asked the vampire duke.
His words instantly set off the nerves of the long-tense butler.
"You stand before the Supreme Duke! Human, cease your insolence!"The butler roared, drawing the weapon at his waist and lunging at Zhou Yi.
An ant trying to kill an elephant—even if it carried a bomb its own size, it would not matter. Zhou Yi's eyes flashed with contempt as he threw a punch into the air.
The blow cracked the air with a thunderous blast. A visible shockwave surged forward, tossing the contents of the hall into chaos—and it didn't stop there.
A violent air current, like a high-pressure jet, slammed into the vampire butler. His charging body was instantly halted, then hurled backward at tremendous speed. With a brutal crash, he struck the wall, hanging there like a grotesque mural. Only moments later did his body slide down, leaving behind a clear human-shaped imprint.
It was a super-sonic punch—compressed by telekinetic force into a concentrated shockwave. It looked miraculous, and served well to intimidate those harboring secret schemes.
Zhou Yi paid the fallen butler no further attention. He continued forward toward the vampire duke. He wanted to see exactly what kind of confidence this decrepit creature had to posture like this in front of him.
