Chapter 5 - Whether Monsters, Demons, or even God

After doing that wrong thing, I went back to the building to watch my sister. The reason I didn't go to school today is because today is the first day she's going to act as a magical girl saving people.

And even cheating, taking the test is going to take a while, so I needed to make sure my sister wouldn't get hurt today so that tomorrow I can take the test without worrying too much.

Fortunately, they didn't close the curtain again, so I was able to keep watching my sister for the rest of the day. This gives me a general profile of her, showing that she hasn't changed much compared to the past.

Although she seems a lot less excited than in the past, probably because she doesn't have anyone with her. This is true sadness for me, but unfortunately it's not something I can fix yet.

All I can do is cheer her up when she gets to school. I'll become her friend and then secretly help her.

After the last class, my sister walks out of school to go back home.

School starts at 7 in the morning and there's a 30-minute break at 10 in the morning so they can rest their minds and eat something, going back to studying at 10:30.

The next break is at 12:30, which is the lunch break, and they're free to walk around the school until 13:30. After that, more classes start and they last until 5 pm, when the students are released.

Each student can choose to stay in the school dorms or go back home, but most end up choosing to stay in the amazing dorms, with large and well-organized rooms.

But my sister ended up choosing to go back home instead of staying in the dorms, showing that she'll be at her house, so there's no reason for me to choose to stay in the school dorms.

Since she's not going to stay in the dorms, I won't either.

I start "chasing" her across the rooftops, jumping from one to the other, being careful not to make too much noise while I follow her. The worst part is when I have to make bigger jumps around the turns and changes in the road.

I'm not very acrobatic, so I end up slipping a few times and almost falling, which ended up making some noise and catching her attention, but luckily she didn't see me, and I was able to follow her all the way to her house.

She went inside and didn't come out until nighttime. My sister's house is in a relatively safe neighborhood. It's a medium-sized, nice-looking house from the outside, with a glass window that looks right into the living room, so I can see the living room from up here on the roof of someone else's house, since there aren't any tall buildings around.

I see her carefully leaving the house without making any noise, while locking the door with a key and hiding the key in her clothes. She does a light jog to an alley where she thinks she's well hidden, and "transforms" into a magical girl.

Ayane's magical girl outfit is in shades of purple, lavender, and white. It's a beautiful dress with various ruffles in those colors, and it reminds me of a princess. The dress accentuates her pretty breasts.

The combination of beauty, gentleness, innocence, and purity makes her stand out, and this same purity is something that will be destroyed by monsters if I don't do anything.

"Her weapon is a staff..." A beautiful purple and lavender staff with black accents. At the top of the staff is a floating purple sphere that emits a soft, ethereal glow.

Magical girls have several natural advantages that I lack. They go unnoticed by the public, have powers at no cost, and have a magical girl outfit that self-repairs.

They also have a specific magic that each one carries, which can have ramifications, and the ability to "blur" memories. If someone discovers them by accident, the person in question forgets, as if the memories were hidden.

In other words, they can exhibit themselves however they want, and their real identities won't be discovered. I don't have that. If someone sees me, I need the demon's help to make the person not notice me.

Basically, what I did when I asked the demon to make me unnoticeable and burn the beggar's money even though there were people nearby, magical girls do this passively, while I have to pay to do it just once.

It's a little unfair, but at least I have a "magic" that guarantees me infinite second chances, as long as a simple act of killing myself activates it.

Of course, another buff for magical girls is that they can detect monsters on their own. As soon as they're near one, they can quickly tell if it's a monster or not. It doesn't work 100% of the time, since there are good monsters at hiding.

But for weaker monsters, it's guaranteed that they'll always find them. My pure and gentle sister uses this to hunt monsters and protect people.

So, since I have no idea where the monsters are, I just quietly follow my sister to protect her in case of danger.

As far as I know, my current sister must have a magic and a branch of that same magic. Her current magic is the ability to create barriers.

And her branch is the ability to heal others, which clearly makes her a wonderful support, but a terrible solo fighter.

I'm also not a good fighter in general, since I'm new to fighting monsters, and my first "fight" wasn't really a fight, since I ended up surrendering to the monster just to catch it off guard.

My powers and weapons are more suited to a support or vanguard person. Basically, I'm a team support. Of course, I'll mainly act alone, so I'll have to see what I'll do against certain enemies.

My weapons are a pistol, a hunting knife, and a sniper-style rifle. So theoretically, I'm more than just support as long as I learn to use these 3 weapons perfectly. But in the end, the sniper-style rifle is my strongest weapon.

Incredibly, maybe in the future I'll be able to use the sniper-style rifle as a weapon that can hit from much greater distances than any modern weapon when I learn to use it well.

Since I noticed that the accuracy, aim, and range of this weapon are absurd, even though I hardly know how to use it.

There's a difference between rifles, snipers, and the sniper-style rifle. To start with, not every sniper is a rifle, so I know my weapon isn't a conventional sniper, but rather a rifle that's in the style of a sniper.

And this difference might help in the future if somehow I can switch between the rifle form and the sniper-style rifle form, since rifles fire quickly and are strong.

But for now, that's a distant dream, and I can only support others with long-range attacks. I have weapons for long, medium, and short range, but I barely know how to use them. It's almost a waste.

I wonder if my sister knows how to use her weapon and her magic. I don't have a useful fighting magic, so in that respect I'm below magical girls.

But the shots from my weapon fulfill the purpose of magic, and getting back to the point, I see my sister entering an alley and gripping her staff tightly. She must have found a monster.

I'm looking for a good spot to stay, and after finding a good position, I place my rifle on the ground, lie down, and adjust the sight, waiting to see. My sister should be able to handle the monster.

However, I notice that my sister's hand is trembling. She's scared, although she may seem excited to help others, she's also afraid.

"..."

Soon, a monster appears. It was hiding in a trash can, a disgusting, pinkish-red mass of flesh.

"That thing...is talking?" It seems to be speaking to my sister, showing some level of intelligence, but whatever it said made my sister make an extremely disgusted face.

My sister takes a fighting stance and charges, swinging the staff. A blue barrier appears, falling from above and flattening the monster.

'...Strange...' Something isn't right. I try to remember the diary, while my sister continues creating barriers to defend against attacks that are fleshy tentacles.

"Motivation... Hey, demon, do magical girls draw power from motivation?" I question into the air, but the black cat soon appears, climbing onto my back. It's annoying, but I don't say anything.

"Correct. What made you notice?" the cat asks me.

"My sister... She's weak compared to the diary, but in the diary she always said I was her motivation to keep going." She always wrote about how she faced monsters to make the world a better place and protect me.

"Magical girls, more precisely, draw power from their feelings, not just motivation. Any feeling works, but it happens that depending on the feeling, a magical girl draws more or less power."

"Your sister is the type that draws little power from feelings like anger or hatred, but draws great power from hope, innocence, and motivation... Which makes her fun to break in the monsters' eyes."

"..." She no longer has me in her life, and now that she no longer has her "little brother," she's lost one of her biggest motivations.

In the diary, she defeated the first monster with just a few attacks, she wrote about it enthusiastically. But now I notice that she's already attacked a lot and hasn't done much to the monster.

'I'll have to get involved...' At this rate, she'll lose. She doesn't have enough power to kill that monster. As I'm lying down and the cat is on my back, I end up using this position.

I take a deep breath and adjust the sight. I'm going to kill this monster with a single shot, a faint black glow runs through the sniper-style rifle, which is basically its bullet.

"Hihihi, if your sister draws power from motivation... Then you, Setsuna, draw power from obsession, a truly sticky and dangerous feeling," the cat says as I finish adjusting the weapon.

"..." I ignore the cat as I prepare to kill the monster with a single shot.

'No one is going to touch my sister, be it a monster, a demon, or even God.' I think as I choose the spot for the shot.
