Chapter 23 - Chapter Twenty Three

Aurora's POV

At sunrise, we rode out of Crescent and headed down the long road. Riding a horse felt strange to me, like I had forgotten how to. The rhythm felt wrong; my posture wasn't the same.

"Do you know where we are going?" I asked, with Rod ahead of me.

"I asked the Chronicle's apprentice about the town in your story," he answered. "And you are right, that picture was you and I don't know how that's possible because you were supposed to be dead."

"I know, right?" I urged my horse forward to ride by his side. "It will explain how I was in a different dress, in a different country across the Great Black River. She was hiding over here."

"Fits why she killed the Deep Traders," he pointed out. "She didn't want anyone knowing she existed—that you exist. She aims to protect you."
