[.]

I opened my eyes as my eyes scanned around the room I found myself inside, "What the hell is…. Going on….?" I say to myself but instead of my native tongue I was suddenly speaking a foreign language.

(A/N Keeping it simple for us though as I don't know how to write in kanji)

I knew what I just said but the words came out foreign to me, suddenly an overload of information began to flood my brain as this body wasn't my own and was one I now inhabited.

Ogawa Kyo, that was the name of the body I came to inhabit, though who I was in my old life was Darren McGuinness and a former United States Sergeant first class of the third infantry battalion during both the Iran and Afghanistan Wars before being Honorbly discharged after finding out I had lung cancer.

I had taken Kemo therapy to deal with the cancer which it did and I improved from, incidentally I fell in love with the nurse who was helping take care of me and later we got married and had two children with.

For years I was fine and worked security for a large Fortune 500 company and finally in my 50's I was able to retire early as I watched my kids grow up and head out of the house to live their lives.

But after many years the cancer came back and this time it was terminal and at 70 years old I knew I passed from my cancer surrounded by my family and I could say I lived a good life.

"I know I didn't always do the right thing, but I didn't think hell would make me have to live someone else's life." I couldn't help but say as I looked at myself over.

"Though what the hell is going on?" I couldn't help but mutter as Kyo's memories filled my life about his life and his death.

He was born and was made an orphan early in life as an accident took his parents lives leaving him to be taken care of by his grandparents.

However a few years ago his grandmother passed and last year his grandfather passed away, and as the last member in the family left alive on his fathers side of the family he inherited his grandparents home.

However he was to saddened to keep living in his old home in the southern peninsula of Hokkaido he decided to use the inheritance money to move to Tokyo, but even with the inheritance the property's there were too expensive.

So instead I found an apartment to live in the outskirts of Tokonosu City in the Chiba Prefecture.

At 19 I found myself a office job and had been working there for a few months but had to call in for work for not feeling so good and that's where the memories end and my memories begin.

[Initializing Complete, Welcome to your new Life] Suddenly a voice appeared in my head making me look around as I place my hand on the side of my head.

I died in the later years of the 21st century so what would later come to be known as Holophones became popular later in my life and me being a technical guy in my free time I decided to get it installed on my body so the voice sounded like the system the holophone would have.

But this was the early 2000's right now from what Kyo's memories told me so this shouldn't be possible, "What is this? Who or what are you? And are you the reason I'm suddenly in this body?" I had to ask as I was confused about the situation.

[Answer- I am a artificial intelligence operating your personally selected Gacha System to help you in your survival here in this world.]

[As for the Body you now reside in, it was one of the few bodies in the world who have not been infected by the virus now sweeping the world, a perfectly human body not infected by the virus nor altered to a higher state beyond humans.]

[As for why you were given this new life I have no information at this time to answer this question, only my creator of me could possibly answer that question.]

The system said laying down plenty of information that left me stunned and confused me even more, "Wait, virus? Survive? What the hell is happening?"

[Answer- I viral outbreak has begun to spread across the globe, slowly beginning to decimate the human population, this wasn't a normal virus as this virus not only killed the host but also revived them and turned them into undead zombies.]

My eyes widened hearing that, "Zombies? You got to be fucking kidding me! I'm suddenly thrust into a Zombie Apocalypse?!" I couldn't help but say as I looked outside my window as I pulled the blinds apart only for my eyes to widen.

There were several smoke stacks in the distance along with me now hearing distant gunfire that I couldn't hear until now before I pulled back, "Shit! This really is happening!"

I then pull away before looking around the entire apartment as I searched for anything I could use for survival.

"Shit, I don't really have anything…." I looked around the apartment only finding a few kitchen knives, a medium sized backpack more suited for school than hiking and some dry ramen packs and two bottles of water.

"System, when did the Apocalypse begin?" I ask as I grab my backpack, filling it with ramen, my water bottles, and using my belt to hold the knives at my sides.

[Answer- The Apocalypse began around Noon yesterday, it is now 8 in the morning and most of Tonkonosu city is filled with the undead] Hearing that made me click my tongue in frustration.

"Is destroying the brain the only way to kill the undead or can they be killed in other ways?" I say as I grab my tennis shoes as I approach the front door as I look out the peephole to see if any zombies were outside, luckily it was all clear from what I could see.

[Answer- Only by destroying the brain, severaing the spine at the base of the skull or cutting off the head will the undead be killed] Hearing that I gritted my teeth.

"Damn, if I had a blunt weapon I could at least kill them easier than these shitty kitchen knives, the only way I could kill a zombie with these would be if I sneak up on them from behind." I say as I stop to think about the places where I could go looking for better weapons

[Query- Would Host like to use the Gacha system to roll for a weapon, each day you get one free roll of either a common weapon, food or supply's to survive in this world, completing major objectives and daily missions to gain tickets for higher Gacha rolls or combine Gacha tickets to make rarer tickets to roll for.] The system decided to ask me making me pause.

"Gacha…. Gacha….. what's Gacha again?" The term sounded familiar as I had heard about it in the past but I don't know what it is exactly.

[Answer- It is a form of Chance Gambling, Every Gacha roll will win you something but it depends upon the grade of the Gacha roll, it could be something great or it could be something rather common, or something you don't need at the moment but could use later]

[There are Common, Uncommon, Rare, Elite, Ultra, Legendary and Special grade Rolls, common and uncommon cover supply's, food and melee weapons, Rare through Ultra open up to basically anything that can be summoned in the world and items from other worlds at that with Elite through Special grade Rolls give the option to summon others from worlds beyond this one to fight by your side whether are actually people or monsters all depends upon your luck but the higher the grade of roll the stronger the summon will be.]

The system said explaining all its features but the daily roll I get once a day was only a common one so I selected it and chose the common Weapon Roll before a wheel appeared in my eyes as it rapidly spun round and round before coming to a stop.

[Congratulations you have won 1x Baseball Bat, it has been placed in your inventory, with the first spin being rolled the inventory has been unlocked and can be used at will.]

The system said as a new window in my eyes, though it was small with a few slots open to which I filled with my backpack, water bottles, ramen and knives filled it up as the bat reappeared in my hand.

"Oak baseball bat, this will do for now." I say as I rested the bat on my shoulder while looking at the door before me.

[Achievements, daily missions and major missions now unlocked, complete these to gain more chances at more gacha rolls.]

It explained to me as I grabbed at the handle to the front door as I took a deep breath.

"Hoooo…. Current objective, survive." I mutter before I opened my front door and went to enter the unknown.
