Chapter 24 - Emily Thomas Is My Wife

As dawn was breaking, I returned to the station to change into my uniform. The noise during the shift change woke up Young Master Lopez and his gang in the iron cell. They squinted at me, then suddenly stood up with surprise when they saw me.

After I changed into casual clothes and saw their astonished expressions, I joked, "Did you see a ghost?"

After he left, Young Master Lopez angrily grabbed the iron bars and said, "Those bastards at The North Gate! They tricked me? Didn't I ask them to warn this cop? How come he looks perfectly fine!"

The other rich boys angrily said, "So much for The North Gate. They always talk big about solving problems with money, and now even the cops scare them. I think Summit City's The Syndicate should dethrone The North Gate."

After I finished my shift, I didn't rush home; instead, I sat in the Community General Hospital, waiting for various blood samples and health check results.

The doctor came with the lab report and handed it to me, saying, "The results are out. The blood samples and all body metrics are normal, no problems. As for the serum impurities you mentioned, we've checked it as well and found no issues. DNA is all normal."

I stood up, frowned, and said, "Doctor, isn't it too quick to get results? Could the examination be incomplete?"

The doctor frowned, "Are you questioning me?"

"No," I quickly explained, "I mean, don't we need a full body check-up for organs and blood cells?"

"This is your full body check-up report." The doctor pointed seriously at the report sheet, saying, "Look at the data. Everything's fine, no issues, got it?"

"But I just feel something's wrong. My ears sometimes get overly sensitive, able to hear every subtle sound around." I said, "It's been going on for almost a whole day now."

The doctor looked at me for a long time and then sighed, "There is indeed one place you haven't checked."

"Right?" I hurriedly said, "I told you it wasn't thorough, hurry up, please check it again for me."

"I recommend you visit a psychiatric hospital to check your brain, or consult a psychologist for any recent mental health issues. A perfectly healthy person insisting on being sick, are you crazy?" The doctor said angrily and walked away.

"Doctor, I feel my body could be a treasure. If you want to make history, I'll give you a chance. How about researching my body?" I pulled on the doctor's arm.

I really felt like there was something wrong with my body. Could it be the defective genetic liquid from the explosion test base causing some bacteria in me?

The doctor looked at the tall and burly me, shivered, then shook me off: "Get lost, you pervert."

Then the doctor ran away like a pretty girl seeing a ghost.

Leaving me with crows flying over my head...

When I returned to the apartment, I used the key to unlock the door. Before I could go in, my sensitive ears heard more than just two women inside—it should be three.

Could they have called a friend over?

As I walked in, I saw the three women on the sofa stop their laughter. When I saw the woman who laughed with elegance and beauty, I froze.

The same beautiful woman also paused, her refined and elegant face showing a hint of surprise.

Elizabeth Campbell noticed Tobby's slightly moved expression upon seeing her friend. Though a bit competitive, she teased, "This guy is finally stunned by beauty. What did I say? It's not that he's gay, it's just that the captivating degree wasn't enough."

Brittany Scott laughed, "You might not know, but Tobby is a fan of Emily Thomas."

The breathtakingly beautiful woman wasn't anyone else but the young Queen of Heaven, Emily Thomas, also Elizabeth Campbell's good friend.

Elizabeth felt a bit better after hearing Brittany's words. She clearly couldn't accept the fact that Tobby was indifferent toward her but was stunned seeing Emily Thomas.

"No wonder." She chuckled.

Brittany laughed, "He even told me 'Emily Thomas is my wife,' I said every man has that dream."

Emily Thomas looked at me, and I looked at her. A fleeting dramatic smile passed between us. But when Emily heard the phrase "Emily Thomas is my wife" from Brittany, her eyes brightened a bit.

Brittany saw me still staring blankly at Emily Thomas and walked over to pat my shoulder, not wanting me to embarrass myself: "Stunned? Surprising, right? The Emily Thomas you like is right in front of you. Who knew Elizabeth would be her friend? Considering this, shouldn't you waive Elizabeth's rent?"

Elizabeth couldn't help but extort, "Yeah, give me back the rent, and I'll reluctantly let you take a photo with Emily."

Brittany pulled me over to sit, and to avoid embarrassment, I picked up water from the table to pretend drinking. Emily Thomas also elegantly raised a teacup, sipping it as Brittany teased, "I said if Emily is his wife, I'd live broadcast drinking essential balm on the streaming platform."

'Pfft'

'Pfft'

Almost simultaneously, Emily Thomas and I both spat out a mouthful of water.

Elizabeth and Brittany looked at us curiously: "What's wrong with you two?"

"Nothing." I casually wiped my mouth, then handed a napkin from the table to Emily Thomas. Emily took it with a delicate hand and said, "Thank you."

For a moment, we shared rapport like old friends, but the next "thank you" put miles between that acquaintance feeling.

Elizabeth assumed the two didn't know each other and introduced, "Emily, this is my landlord, Tobby Curry."

"He's the landlord you called bad-tempered, lacking in gentleman manners, and a rare find?" Emily Thomas smiled, looking at me with her eyes full of joy.

Elizabeth nodded, "Yes, that's right, it's him."

Emily extended her delicate hand with a light smile, "Hello, I'm Elizabeth's friend."

I hesitated for a moment before reaching out to shake hands with the 'stranger,' giving a bitter smile, "Hello."

"Emily, you're acting weird today; usually, you'd never take the initiative to shake hands with a man." Elizabeth teased.

"Is that so?" Emily momentarily froze before explaining, "I'm afraid if I'm rude, Mr. Curry will expose our relationship, and it would be awkward to meet in the future."

"Wouldn't be exposed," I replied, "but I didn't expect you to be Elizabeth's friend."

Emily looked at me with deep meaning, "I was surprised too."

She added in her mind: Surprised that you know my best friend.
