At noon, Brittany Scott went to the kitchen to whip up some food. Emily Thomas and Elizabeth Campbell were chatting in the living room.
"You wicked woman, how could you take a week off without telling me?" Emily gave Elizabeth a reproachful look when no one else was around.
Elizabeth, not realizing her mistake, said, "Come on, I wanted to get in touch with you, but could you really hang out with me? Look at you now, you're so famous—your pin-up posters are everywhere on the streets. Anywhere you show up, you'll cause a jam. I'd only get in trouble with you. I still remember what happened last time. That's why I didn't look for you, and I didn't want to tell you I have a month off."
Emily brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, suggesting she was letting Elizabeth off the hook, and started peeling an apple with a fruit knife. "That was an accident last time. I didn't know that fan could recognize me."
