Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: End of War

Deep Underground Hideout

In the darkness of his subterranean lair, Madara Uchiha sat motionless on his makeshift stone throne, thick tubes connecting his aged body to the Gedo Mazo.

The stone floor rippled, and Black Zetsu slowly emerged from the ground, his yellow eyes glowing in the gloom.

"Madara-sama," Zetsu rasped, his voice echoing in the cavern. "As you expected, the invasion was unsuccessful. The allied forces were defeated thoroughly by Konoha, despite their excellent planning."

Zetsu let out a low chuckle. "I have to say, utilizing Kumogakure's Heavenly Transfer Technique and offsetting the lethal physical damage with Ren Uchiha's Healing Tags was a brilliant strategy. If it were not for Minato Namikaze, the village would have been completely destroyed. Still, even with the village in ruins, they wouldn't have defeated Konoha."

Madara didn't open his eyes.

"We have a problem, however," Zetsu reported. "Tsunade Senju killed the One-Tail outright. It will take at least two to four years for the beast's chakra to reform."

Madara frowned slightly, the wrinkles on his ancient face deepening. "A minor delay. And the boy?"

"There is very important news regarding Obito Uchiha," Zetsu said. "He has awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. However, this leaves your original plan for him somewhat useless. After awakening his eyes, he slaughtered the Iwa shinobi, disappeared from the battlefield with Rin Nohara's corpse, and only reappeared sometime later."

Madara finally opened his Sharingan, the three tomoe spinning lazily. "Bring him to me. We have to see if his heart is still suitable to carry out the Eye of the Moon plan, or if we just need to harvest his eyes."

"Understood," Zetsu nodded.

"And what of Ren Uchiha?" Madara asked. "What has he been doing? And his lack of aging... have you confirmed if it is merely a transformation technique?"

"Ren Uchiha has been in the Land of Rice Fields, treating refugees affected by the war," Zetsu replied. "As for his aging, we cannot get close enough to him to confirm the exact nature of his condition without being detected."

Madara closed his eyes again, "Leave him be. As long as he does not interfere with our plans, he is of no consequence. But if he steps into my path... I will take care of him myself."

Five Days Later – The Ninja World

The news spread across the shinobi nations like wildfire, carrying the undeniable truth: the Third Great Ninja War was effectively over.

Sunagakure had lost their Third Kazekage, their elite puppeteer commanders, and their Jinchuriki. They had suffered massive infantry casualties and were entirely broken.

Iwagakure had seen both of their Jinchuriki—Roshi (Four-Tails) and Han (Five-Tails)—captured by Konoha, leaving them without their ultimate deterrents.

Kumogakure was in shambles. The Third Raikage, the future Fourth Raikage (A), and the Eight-Tails Jinchuriki (Killer B) were all prisoners of Konoha.

Kirigakure had suffered the least structural damage, losing only four of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen. They still possessed the resources and manpower to keep fighting, but looking at the absolute devastation Konoha had inflicted on the other three nations simultaneously, the Mizukage realized that continuing the war would be geopolitical suicide.

Against impossible odds, Konoha had effectively defeated all four rival nations at once. At this point in time, the Hidden Leaf Village stood as the absolute, undisputed strongest military power since the era of Hashirama Senju.

Another Ten Days Have Passed – The Land of Rice Fields

In the Daimyo's palace, where the royal leader of the Land of Rice Fields should have been living, the grand halls were now occupied by Ren and his parents.

"Mom, what's the situation with our finances?" Ren asked.

Kaori, who had essentially taken over the country's treasury, sighed. "The condition of the finances is not good. We don't have enough food to feed the refugees for much longer. Though we currently have enough funds to buy food from the Land of Fire, our money will eventually run out."

Taking over the Land of Rice Fields hadn't been that difficult. It was a peaceful transaction. Ren had simply given the Daimyo two options: abdicate and keep a portion of his wealth and his life, or risk dying of a sudden "heart attack" while the next Daimyo accepted the first option. The Daimyo was a smart guy; he chose option one.

The real realization came after taking over, Ren thought internally. The finances and funds left by the Daimyo were huge. The sheer gleam of that much money almost made me blind, but that same light quickly became a harsh reality check after seeing the darkness of our problems. This country survives through simple farming and a little fishing. It really has nothing else.

We have a severe food shortage, his thoughts continued. We have enough money to import food from the Land of Fire right now, but it's only enough to last a months. If we want to develop this country, we need sustainable funds. I could sell Healing Tags, but setting up a proper distribution channel and a mass-production line would be a huge hassle. I would have no other option but to manufacture them all myself.

And even if I solve the funding problem, the Land of Fire still has an absolute monopoly over food and agriculture. Sooner or later, Konoha is going to be our enemy—especially us. I have to break the Land of Fire's monopoly.

Suddenly, the shadows stretched across the room, and Satoshi emerged from the darkness.

"I have brought them," Satoshi said.

"How many did you get?" Ren asked.

"Fifty. Will that be enough?"

Ren grinned confidently. "More than enough."

Kaori looked between the two of them from the side. "What are you talking about?"

"Mom, I have an idea to solve the food crisis in the country," Ren said.

Ren and Kaori followed Satoshi down into the Shadow Realm. Inside the blue-tinted void lay forty White Zetsu corpses, alongside ten that had been kept alive and restrained.

"How exactly are you going to use these to solve a food crisis?" Satoshi asked.

Ren walked over to one of the White Zetsu corpses. "Watch this, Dad."

Ren injected a surge of Natural Energy into the pale body. Instantly, the corpse reacted, turning to bark and sprouting branches until it grew into a full-sized tree right before their eyes.

Satoshi stared at it, thoroughly confused by the sudden Wood Release.

"See?" Ren explained. "This tree grew in just seconds. But this is just regular wood; it doesn't bear fruit. What if it was an apple tree?"

Satoshi tapped his chin in thought. "So... are you going to turn these corpses into apple trees, inject them with Natural Energy, harvest infinite apples, and then sell those apples to other nations? That would definitely solve our funding problem!"

Ren was completely speechless. He opened his mouth to refute his dad's logic, but he couldn't find a single flaw in it. It actually seemed terrifyingly feasible.

Beside them, Kaori facepalmed, groaning at the sheer display of high-IQ stupidity radiating from both father and son. "Ren," she sighed. "Please continue explaining your actual plan."

"Right, yes," Ren coughed. "I mean to say... look at how this corpse becomes a tree in seconds after absorbing Natural Energy. What if we create crop seeds with similar genetic characteristics? Even if we couldn't make the crops grow in seconds, if we could make them grow in a matter of days or a week, it would completely solve our problem."

Kaori crossed her arms. "Ren, creating this kind of seed might sound easy in theory, but you are simply trying to replicate Wood Release. We don't even know what these white things are, how they use Wood Release, where they came from, or if they are somehow related to the Senju clan or someone else."

She's right, Ren thought to himself. Mom and Dad don't know what these things are. I know they should be Madara's army of White Zetsu, but I don't know much about the underlying lore. Damn it. If I knew I was going to end up in the Naruto world, I would have actually watched the whole series instead of just clips!

Ren shook off his internal regret and turned to his mother. "We won't know if we don't try. And don't worry, Mom. I'll be careful."
