Veronica's POV
My mention of what happened years ago struck a raw nerve with Leonardo. I could see it was the one thing he refused to discuss—those painful memories he couldn't let go of.
"Who told you to bring that up? Who asked you to mention it again? What business is it of yours? Don't think just because we have that agreement, you can stick your nose into Nelson family affairs!" Leonardo exploded, his anger erupting like a volcano, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Watching him lose control, I realized I'd set him off again. "Fine, I'll shut up. Pretend I never said anything."
I pushed Leonardo's wheelchair through the Nelson garden, and after some time in silence, he asked, "Who's coming?"
Even without his sight, his hearing was razor-sharp. He caught the sound of approaching footsteps. I heard them too and turned to see Charlie heading our way with a few others trailing behind. They reached us quickly.
