Veronica's POV
"I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. A pendant? Never laid eyes on one."
I'd already pieced together that these women were hunting for drama. They wanted to pin some theft on me, did they?
Pathetic.
"You've obviously stashed it somewhere. Just fork it over, or this gets messy—and trust me, you don't want that," Ashley snarled.
"Like I said, I didn't swipe anything."
"If you're so innocent, then you won't mind opening that bag for us to peek inside, right?" Ashley's challenge dripped with fake sweetness.
I glanced down at my purse. Their cocky attitude told me everything—they'd already planted whatever they wanted to find. If my gut was right, that pendant was sitting pretty in my bag right now.
"We'll search it ourselves. Nothing there? You walk free. Something there? Police station it is," Norma jumped in, her voice sharp as glass.
"Fine. Knock yourselves out."
I unzipped my bag, and they swarmed like vultures, eyes glued to every inch.
