Lily swallowed.
"No! That's not what I meant!"
She quickly explained:
"The butler said you were working out in the backyard. You suddenly appeared here, so I was just… surprised."
She almost said scared—
But her survival instincts kicked in at the last second.
Jacob's brows furrowed slightly.
"Oh?"
"The butler told you I was in the backyard?"
He didn't understand.
Why would the butler deliberately give her the wrong location?
Then—
A dangerous thought surfaced.
His gaze sharpened.
"So," he said slowly,
"you came to the front yard specifically to avoid me?"
The implication was heavy.
Lily panicked internally.
Why is his reaction so fast?!
Did he install a mind-reading chip or something?!
She looked around nervously, searching for an escape route.
"I—I'm weak," she blurted out.
"I don't need to work out."
"I just wanted to take a walk in the front yard. I didn't think too much about it."
"You misunderstood me!"
Even she didn't believe that explanation.
