Sarah Chen stepped into the room, and she wasn't smiling.
"Sarah?" Lily said carefully. "What are you doing here?"
"You don't even sound like her anymore," Sarah said quietly, her voice filled with pain rather than menace. "The real Lily—my Lily—she would have known exactly why I'm here."
Jacob moved protectively in front of the hospital bed. "You need to leave. Now."
"I'm not leaving until someone tells me the truth." Sarah's hands were shaking. "Where is my best friend? What did you people do to her?"
Walsh stepped forward cautiously. "Ms. Chen, I don't know what you think is happening, but—"
"I think the Cross family did something to Lily. Changed her. Broke her." Sarah's voice cracked. "Six months ago, my best friend was fighting this marriage with everything she had. Then suddenly—overnight—she's a different person. Compliant. Sweet. In love with the man she despised."
She looked directly at Jacob, accusation clear in her eyes.
