The morning after the mating ceremony, I woke wrapped in Ezra's arms, sunlight streaming through the window. For a moment, everything was perfect. I was Luna. I had a mate who loved me. My pack had celebrated us with joy and acceptance.
Then I felt it, a disturbance through the mate bond. Ezra was tense, even in sleep, his body rigid with stress.
"Ezra?" I touched his face gently. "Wake up."
His eyes snapped open, immediately alert. "Nessa. Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."
"You didn't. But something's wrong. I can feel it through the bond."
He sighed and sat up, running a hand through his hair. "I got a message last night. After we went to bed. I didn't want to ruin our night, so I waited to tell you."
My stomach dropped. "What message?"
"From Alpha Kris. He said there's been unusual activity around Silverwood's borders. Thorne has been calling in favors from other traditional Alphas, gathering support for something. Kris doesn't know what, but he wanted to warn us."
