"Wait, go back," I said. "You said someone from Silverwood approached you before you left Pine Ridge Pack?"
"Yes," Chris confirmed. "A warrior. He said he knew I was planning to run, and he could help me get to The Nightshade. He gave me directions, told me the best routes to avoid patrols."
"Did he tell you his name?"
"No. But he had a scar across his jaw, like this." Chris traced a line on his own face.
I knew that scar. I've seen it many times during my years at Silverwood.
"Derek," I breathed. The Beta who fought me during my trial by combat. "Derek sent you to The Nightshade?"
"I guess? I didn't know his name. Why?"
Because Derek was loyal to Thorne. He would never help an omega escape unless it served Thorne's purposes.
"We need to talk to Ezra," I said urgently. "Now."
I brought Chris to Ezra's office and had him repeat his story. Ezra's expression grew darker with each word.
