OLEANDER
"How long are you going to stare at your phone?" Grandma Clarice's voice cut through my thoughts.
I startled, staring at her. She was seated opposite me. I hadn't noticed when she walked into the living room. I was sure I had been alone and she had been in the bedroom all day long. But here she was.
"Are you going to reply to the text from your boyfriend?"
"B…boyfriend?" Heat rushed to my cheeks as I looked at her. She gave me a knowing smile.
I didn't like the way she was watching me. It wasn't unkind, but it made me feel as though she could see straight through me. As though she knew about Hex.
And how on earth did she know he had texted me? I'd have accused she had taken a peak, except that where I was seating was literally close to the wall.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Grandma Clarice asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.
I should be asking her that. She was the one giving me that suspicious look.
