Olivia closed the door behind her, the soft click sounding louder than it should have in the quiet office.

I didn't ask her to sit.

I moved around my desk instead, loosening my tie slightly, my mind still very much outside this room, at the desk just beyond the glass, where Tessa sat pretending to focus while everything inside her was probably tangled and uncertain.

Olivia turned to face me, arms folding loosely across her chest. "You've been avoiding me."

I looked up then, meeting her gaze calmly. "I've been busy."

Her lips curved, but there was tension beneath it. "Busy doesn't explain the silence. Or why I had to walk in there to get your attention."

I exhaled slowly, choosing my words with care. "Olivia, this isn't appropriate."

Her brows lifted. "What isn't?"

"This," I said, gesturing vaguely between us. "Coming into my office unannounced. Demanding time. Acting like…" I stopped myself, jaw tightening. "Like things haven't changed."
