Chapter 3 - Through The Dark Threshold

It was obvious that the woman was drunk. She then stood from the sofa she was seated on. She stretches her hands towards Gideon. "You well know how it's done; how much will you pay?"

Gideon needed the woman; he knew the men guiding the elevator wouldn't suspect, and because she was a female, they wouldn't take her actions personally.

Gideon dug his hands deep into his pocket and brought out a stack of hundred-dollar bills, then handed them to the woman. "Here this should be more than enough."

The woman gazed down at the money before lifting her gaze. "This isn't enough; add more."

Gideon sighed, narrowing his eyes before bringing out another stack of a hundred dollars and then dropping it into her palms. "Make sure you do as I say."

The woman then smirked before walking past Gideon, but Gideon's hands caught hers, and he gently yanked her backwards. "Don't think of running without getting the job done."

The woman sneered before replying. "Yeah, detective, I won't."

The woman already knew that Gideon was a detective, though Gideon was stunned, but he didn't think deeply about it; all he wanted currently was for the woman to do as he had requested.

The woman walked away; she went over to the two hefty men standing firm at the elevator entrance. "Hey handsome, what could attractive men like you be standing here doing? Why not come dance with me?"

The men already knew the woman was drunk, so they didn't flinch at her approach.

With the alcohol in the cup she was holding, she went over to the second man at her left and pretended as if she tripped on her foot and then fell on the man's arms, forcing him to catch her midair before falling to the ground.

"Ooh hehe, thank you, didn't know my steps would disappoint me." She then pulled out the spray Gideon gave to her and sprayed it on the man's hands. "Check the scent of this; does it smell good?"

The man instinctively pushed the woman to the side. "Go away before you get yourself hurt."

The woman laughed, then staggered to the other man. She then held his hands, but he yanked them off her. "Go away, we won't warn you for the second time."

"Oooh stop playing hard to get; let me updo those hands of yours." The woman held the man's hands again, and he narrowed his eyes with a sigh, allowing her.

She then sprays the chemical on his hands before stepping backwards. "Check it out, does it smell good?"

The scent from the spray was enticing, so the men didn't think much about it.

The man raised his hands and inhaled the scent before lowering it. "It smells good. Now get out of here, or look for somewhere to sleep; you are drunk."

"Ooh yeah, you are right, I need some rest. Ooh gosh, I'm feeling dizzy already." The woman sighed as she spoke drunkenly before walking away.

The chemical didn't react at that moment when she sprayed it at the men; it was when she vanished into the crowd that the men began feeling itching on their skin.

The first man who was sprayed with the chemical began scratching his skin before shifting his gaze to his colleague. "Hey, can you feel what I'm feeling on my skin?"

The other man shook his head dismissively. "No, what's the problem?" Though he hadn't yet begun feeling the reaction of the spray on his skin, just then he began feeling itchy. "Yeah, I can feel what you are feeling. What's actually happening."

The men were confused, and just then the reaction spread all over their bodies like wildfire, plunging them into severe pain.

Gideon used this diversion to sneak behind them and get into the elevator. Ideally, the elevator was to have a button that would elevate it to the designated section of the building floor. But in the current elevator Gideon was on, nothing was found; everything was blank.

And just then the elevator began moving upwards, as though it were in control on its own. When the door opened, Gideon hesitated from stepping out because the elevator had taken him to a place of total darkness.

"What on earth is this place," Gideon mumbles. He can't even see a thing through the pitch darkness before him. It was as though the specific section the elevator was on was in a totally different place.

Gideon turned on the light on his phone, then stepped forward. The moment the door to the elevator closed, the pitch-dark section of the building Gideon was, immediately lit up.

Gideon was fascinated by the view before him. The place looked luxurious, and a man sat on a couch a distance away from him staring at him as if been waiting for his arrival. And Just then, the man began to clap.

"I have been expecting you, Detective Gideon."

Gideon was dumbfounded as to how the man knew his name and how he had known of his coming.
