Lilian's POV
I sensed whatever Alicia wanted to share would sting. Forcing a tired smile, I told her, "Just say it." After enduring so many letdowns recently, cruel words had lost their power to wound me.
Alicia spoke quietly, "Mr. Atlas asked me to relay a message. He thinks if you're restless at home, perhaps you should consider picking up a hobby rather than pursuing employment constantly. He also said he believes work isn't really suited for you."
A harsh laugh bubbled up from my chest. The notion that I wasn't cut out for work was absurd. I was going to prove Augusto completely wrong and demonstrate my ability to stand on my own feet.
Despite feeling crushed lately, Augusto's cutting remarks ignited fresh resolve within me.
Alicia appeared unsettled by the icy smile spreading across my face. "Ms. Sterling, are you feeling okay?" she inquired with worry.
