Chapter 19 - Space Mission

A few weeks had passed since the whole Dark Chrom incident.

During that time, Pit learned how to play games properly. He no longer fought the controller like it was an enemy weapon. He still lost often—but now with dignity.

Samus still played with him sometimes.

Not because he needed help anymore.

Just because… they enjoyed each other's company.

Then every screen in the Smash House flared white.

The TV. The monitors. Even the small kitchen tablet someone had left on the counter.

Everyone froze.

The image stabilized.

Captain Falcon's face filled the screens, bruised, dusty, and clearly annoyed.

The signal glitched.

"S.O.S. Need help. Fox's ship crashed. We are stuck on an unknown planet. It's dangerous an—"

The screen cut to static.

Silence fell over the house.

Pit blinked. "That… sounds bad."

Fox was already moving, headset on, tail bristling.

"That signal came from outside known Smash space," Fox said. "If my ship went down… then something strong enough to pull it out of warp is out there."

Link rested a hand on his sword.

Mario cracked his knuckles.

Samus didn't say anything. She was already walking toward the armory.

Pit looked around.

Everyone else looked ready for battle.

He swallowed.

'Here we go again.'

Palutena's voice echoed softly in his mind.

"Pit."

A light shimmer appeared beside him. Not a full projection—just enough for her presence.

"This is a rescue mission," she said. "Not a tournament match. Real danger."

Pit nodded.

"I know."

Viridi's voice cut in.

"And if that planet is unstable, I want eyes on the terrain. Don't die. It messes with nature."

Pit smiled slightly.

"No promises."

She huffed.

"I hate you."

"I know."

Samus walked past him, fully armored now.

"We're taking a team," she said. "Fast response. No heavy crowd."

Fox turned.

"I'm going."

Falco stepped beside him.

"Obviously."

Link nodded once.

"I'll come."

Lucina stepped forward too.

"So will I."

Pit raised his hand.

"Me too."

Phosphora stretched.

"I am coming with you".

Samus looked at him.

For a moment, just a moment, she hesitated.

Then she nodded.

"Alright, angel. Stay close."

Pit's heart skipped slightly.

He pretended not to notice.

Sora bounced into the room last, hands behind his head.

"I guess it's time for the adventure arc," he said cheerfully. "Don't forget—if anyone dies, dramatic music first."

Everyone stared at him.

Sora grinned.

"I'm kidding. Mostly."

The launch bay doors opened.

A sleek transport ship waited.

Engines humming.

Stars calling.

Pit stepped inside with the others, wings folding tight.

As the doors closed, he looked out the window at the Smash House shrinking below.

'From shopping malls… to space rescue.'

He smiled.

'Yeah. This tracks.'

The ship launched into the stars.

And the next chapter of Smash Life began.

Back in the ship

Phosphora leaned back in her seat.

"So, who went with Captain?"

Fox kept working on the Smash Ship console.

"Villager, Duck Hunt, Terry, Pyra and Mythra, Yoshi… and Bowsette."

Pit blinked.

"Bowsette?"

Samus raised her arm. A holographic photo appeared.

A tall girl with blonde hair, small horns, a crown, and burning hands.

A confident grin.

A dress that screamed battle queen energy.

[Insert image of Bowsette here]

"Bowser's daughter," Samus explained.

"And Bowser Jr's older sister."

Phosphora blinked slowly.

"That man has a daughter?"

Pit just stared at the hologram.

"Why does she look like Peach?"

Lucina shrugged.

"We don't know."

Falco smirked.

"Even Bowser doesn't know."

Fox added without looking up.

"She's adopted."

Silence.

Pit nodded once.

"…Yeah that explains everything."

Palutena's voice whispered in his mind.

"Pit. Do not get involved in whatever family drama that is."

Pit whispered back.

"I wasn't planning to."

Viridi cut in.

"You were absolutely planning to."

Pit sighed.

"…Maybe a little."

Samus closed the hologram.

"Either way, they're already on the planet. We're the rescue team. If something went wrong up there—"

Fox's console beeped.

Coordinates locked.

A red warning symbol flashed: Unknown Planet. High Hostility.

Pit tightened his grip on his bow.

'Space mission. Unknown planet. Fox in danger.'

He smiled.

'Yep. This definitely tracks.'

Samus turned toward the group.

"Everyone gear up. We launch in ten minutes."

Pit stretched his wings.

"Roger that."

The Smash Ship tore through space at impossible speed.

Stars stretched into white lines. Engines roared like thunder.

Inside, everyone stood ready.

Pit held his bow, wings slightly spread.

Samus checked her armor systems.

Fox watched the radar.

Lucina rested her hand on her sword.

After several minutes, the ship slowed.

A planet filled the viewing screen.

It looked like Earth.

Blue oceans. Green lands. White clouds.

But something was wrong.

It was huge.

Ten times larger than Earth.

Pit stared.

"…That's big."

Fox typed rapidly.

"Gravity reading is high, but still survivable for us. Atmosphere is breathable. Energy readings are… strange."

Samus narrowed her eyes.

"Organic energy signatures. Everywhere."

Lucina whispered.

"A living planet…"

Palutena's voice echoed softly in Pit's mind.

"Be careful, Pit. Worlds like this are never simple."

Viridi added.

"And I thought I liked nature. This is excessive."

The ship descended through the clouds.

Land stretched endlessly below. Massive forests. Mountains taller than skyscrapers. Rivers as wide as seas.

Pit swallowed.

'Okay. This is definitely not a normal rescue mission.'

Fox spoke firmly.

"Landing zone spotted. Open field. No hostile readings yet."

Falco cracked his neck.

"Keyword: yet."

The ship touched down.

The ramp opened.

Warm wind rushed inside. The smell of wild grass and unknown flowers filled the air.

Pit stepped out first.

His boots sank slightly into soft soil.

He looked around.

Endless horizon. Giant trees towering like pillars. Distant animal roars echoing across the plains.

Lucina stepped beside him.

"…So this is where Captain Falcon sent the SOS."

Samus raised her arm cannon.

"Stay sharp. If they crashed here, something strong lives on this world."

Pit smiled, bow glowing faintly.

"Don't worry. We'll find them."

Behind them, the Smash Ship closed its ramp.

And on the far edge of the forest…

Multiple glowing eyes opened in the shadows.

Watching.

Waiting.

For newcomers.

Pit squinted at the tree line.

For a moment, he swore he saw eyes glowing between the trunks.

But when he blinked—

Nothing.

He shook his head.

"…Must be my imagination."

Phosphora shot upward in a streak of lightning. She hovered high above the forest, scanning.

"Trees. More trees. And— yep. Still trees."

Viridi muttered in Pit's mind.

"That planet has an obsession."

Fox lifted his blaster and aimed at a hanging vine.

Pew.

Something fell from the branches and thudded into the grass.

A grape.

Except it was the size of an apple.

Falco walked over, picked it up, and weighed it in his hand.

"…Either this planet has giant fruit… or we just found the healthiest snack ever."

Pit poked it.

"…If the grapes are this big, I don't wanna know how big the animals are."

Samus glanced toward the forest.

"…We're going in. Stay together."

Lucina nodded, stepping beside Pit.

"Agreed."

As they entered the trees, the shadows between the branches seemed to shift.

Soft. Slow. Watching.

Pit didn't mention it again.

But his grip on his bow tightened.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the planet.

Captain Falcon crouched beside the wrecked ship, sparks flickering from a torn engine panel. He clicked his tongue.

"…Yeah. This is gonna take a while."

Terry wiped sweat from his brow and handed him a tool.

"Need a hand, amigo?"

Falcon smirked.

"Always."

Nearby, Villager swung his axe.

Thunk.

He stopped, staring at the tree.

"…Strong."

He swung ten more times.

Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.

Finally, the tree fell. Villager leaned on his axe, breathing hard.

"…That was fast."

Pyra held a burning leaf against another tree.

Nothing happened.

Bowsette stepped forward, flames blazing from her hands. She pressed the fire harder.

Still nothing.

Pyra blinked.

"…Fire resistant."

Bowsette narrowed her eyes.

"…That means this planet gets set on fire a lot."

Terry laughed nervously.

"That's… comforting."

Villager took a deep breath, staring at the sky.

Speaking in that calm little cowboy tone of his, he sighed.

"Take a trip to space, she said. It'll be fun, she said."

He looked at the broken ship, the giant trees, and the strange sky.

"…Well, Isabella. I am stuck here now."

Terry looked at Captain Falcon.

"So… any idea what attacked us while we were in the air?"

Falcon didn't look up from the exposed wiring.

"That's why I'm fixing the monitor first. Once it's online, we'll see what hit us."

A low rumble echoed across the forest.

Everyone froze.

Branches shook. Leaves fell. The ground vibrated like a heartbeat.

Bowsette straightened, flames licking from her fists.

"Ohhh. Something big is coming."

Pyra raised her sword, Mythra already beside her with light gathering at her blade.

Villager quietly lifted his axe again.

Duck Hunt's dog growled, duck flapping anxiously above.

Terry cracked his knuckles.

Falcon finally snapped the monitor into place.

The screen flickered to life.

Static.

Then an image sharpened.

A colossal shadow moving through the trees.

Eyes glowing in the dark.

Falcon's voice dropped.

"…Found you."

Meanwhile, Pit's group reached a lake.

The water was crystal clear, sparkling under the strange sun. Fish drifted lazily beneath the surface, silver scales catching the light. The reflection of the sky shimmered like glass.

Everyone paused. Even Phosphora, who normally never stayed still, just hovered quietly.

Pit knelt down and dipped his hand into the water.

The moment his fingers touched it, his wings twitched.

His halo glowed faintly.

His angel senses stirred.

"It's pure," Pit said softly.

Lucina stepped closer, staring into the lake. "Pure… as in holy?"

Palutena's voice echoed in his mind, distant but alert.

"Pit. Be careful. Water that pure in a world like this usually means one thing."

Samus glanced around, visor scanning.

"Something lives here."

A ripple spread across the lake.

Not from wind.

From below.

The water erupted.

A massive shape burst from the lake, sending waves rolling across the shore. Everyone stepped back instinctively—except Pit, whose wings flared wide in reflex.

What rose from the water was a dragon.

Blue scales shimmered like polished sapphire. Its body was long and serpentine, with fin-like wings instead of arms, and a tail that curled beneath the surface. Water streamed off its hide like liquid glass. Its eyes were bright, clear, and—strangely gentle.

It didn't roar.

It chirped. Soft. Curious.

Pit blinked.

"…It's friendly."

Samus kept her arm cannon raised but didn't fire. "Non-lethal posture. No aggression."

Lucina lowered her sword slightly. "A water dragon…"

Phosphora floated closer, eyes wide. "Okay. That's adorable."

The dragon tilted its head, then dipped its snout toward Pit's hand still resting in the lake.

Pit didn't move away.

The dragon nudged his palm.

Warm. Calm. Pure.

His halo glowed again.

Palutena's voice echoed in his mind, softer this time.

"Pit… I think it recognizes you."

Pit swallowed.

"Uh… hi?"

The dragon chirped again and coiled gracefully around the lake, splashing playfully like a giant aquatic puppy.

Fox stared.

"…We came here to rescue people and instead found a divine water noodle."

Falco crossed his arms.

"Best planet ever."

Pit smiled, wings relaxing.

Somehow, this strange world just kept getting stranger.

And he was starting to feel right at home.

Link went to the Dragon and went on one knee. "Can you help use find our friend's?".

The dragon paused.

Its massive head turned toward Link, eyes gleaming like polished glass. For a moment, no one breathed. The lake rippled in perfect circles around its body.

Then—

The dragon dipped its head low.

A gesture. A bow.

Link stayed on one knee, hand resting on the hilt of his sword, silent respect meeting silent understanding.

The dragon chirped once more—brighter this time—and began to swim toward the far end of the lake. Its long body cut through the water with smooth, powerful strokes, leaving a shining wake behind it.

Pit pointed. "I think… it wants us to follow."

Samus lowered her arm cannon fully. "Then we follow."

Lucina nodded. "Agreed."

Phosphora shot into the air. "Race you there!"

Fox sighed. "Of course."

They moved along the shoreline, running beside the dragon as it guided them. The forest stretched tall and ancient around them, trees wider than buildings back home. Every now and then, Pit caught that strange feeling again—like eyes watching from the distance—but when he looked, there was only wind in the branches.

Ahead, beyond the trees, smoke curled into the sky.

Pit's expression sharpened.

"That's them."

The dragon let out a low, encouraging chirp.

And together, they rushed forward—toward their stranded friends, toward answers, and toward whatever this planet was truly hiding.
