Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: An Elf

The next morning.

Before leaving the house, the girl peeked out from behind the slightly ajar door. She looked left and right. Sighing with relief, she emerged from her home. Her face looked slightly gloomy.

She looked up at the sky. A strong breeze blew her blue hair, revealing her ears which were always covered by her long hair.

The girl's earlobes were slightly long and pointed, unlike most human ears. The girl was no ordinary human. She had mixed blood from her elven father and her human mother.

Elves are a very rare race. In fact, they themselves could perhaps be considered only a fairy tale. Elves have a body and facial structure very similar to ordinary humans.

What sets them apart is their long earlobes and their extremely long lifespans, which can even live for hundreds of years.

It is said that long ago, humans and elves lived side by side. However, despite their coexistence, the two races did not get along.

Elves looked down on humans for their weakness, and humans envied the elves' lifespans.

Although elves have a long lifespan, this doesn't mean they are immortal. Elves can die from illness, injury, starvation, and even murder.

Although humans are seen as weak, they can also be terrifying.

Long ago, it was said that humans began killing elves and taking their blood. They believed that elf blood could give them longevity, even immortality.

However, humans opposed this accusation. While some may have done so, not all did.

There were still people who were on good terms with the elves. And not all elves looked down on humans.

But because clashes continued and their trust in each other began to fade, the two kingdoms of the races began a war.

A terrible war that claimed many lives. The war lasted quite a long time until it finally ended without any announcement of which side won.

Rumors said that the human kingdom won the battle and the elf kingdom was destroyed. Some also said that both kingdoms chose to retreat because they did not want more of their race to die.

Hundreds of years passed without anyone ever seeing the elf race again. But without anyone knowing the truth, perhaps the elf race still existed and lived in hiding.

Because the girl was of mixed blood, her earlobes were not as long as those of the average elf, and for how long she herself did not know.

However, the reason some people consider the elves to be superior is because of a gift they are born with. This gift allows them to create medicine. No matter how severe the illness, if the medicine is made by elves, it can be cured.

Even by adding a little of their blood, someone near death can be brought back to life. Because of this, some elves have a sense of superiority.

However, not all elves are evil, and not all humans are good.

Seven years ago, the girl still lived with her father. Her father was a kind elf. Sometimes he would disguise himself and give medicine to villagers in need.

The villagers were very happy and helped by his kindness. In the past, the two of them also lived in the forest, but not too far from the village. When a villager was in critical condition, they would come looking for her father, and he would immediately treat them.

The grateful villagers sometimes gave food, goods, and even money, although not much. Her father accepted them wholeheartedly, because his goal was not money but to help.

However, not everyone had the same opinion. There were some who were curious about the ingredients of the medicine he used. Although her father had told them the ingredients, that ordinary humans would not be able to produce such perfect effects because they did not have the blessing of elves.

But none of them knew that her father was an elf.

They thought he was hiding a secret ingredient or something. Some people tried to steal the medicine and sell it.

But because they did not know what the medicine they stole was for or how to use it, they ended up poisoning some of the people who bought it.

When the thieves were accused of poisoning and about to be reported, they instead talked about the person who made the medicine. They accused her father.

Her father knew nothing and claimed they stole the medicine. The thieves denied it and claimed her father was a fraud. Her father had made poison for the villagers.

An argument ensued. Security guards tried to intervene and questioned the other villagers. The village chief and several villagers testified that her father was innocent.

Her father also said that the medicine wasn't poison, but if not used correctly, it could become poison. This statement proved they had stolen it.

But even so, the villagers refused to accept it. With a furious glare and gritted teeth, the thief stepped forward and grabbed her father's robe. He shook it and tried to hit her father in the face.

As her father tried to dodge, the hood covering his head accidentally fell off, revealing a pair of long ears.

The people present were shocked to see him.

"You, an elf?" The thief said with a shocked expression.

"So elves really exist?" The people murmured.

Her father's face looked a little pale, confused about what to say.

After a moment of tension, someone spoke and diverted the atmosphere.

"If he's an elf, so what? He's someone who has sincerely helped us all."

"How rude of you to look at him like that when he has helped us all so much." The one speaking was the village chief.

The citizens looked at each other and nodded in agreement.

"That's right. He is a good person. If he intended to kill us all he would have done it a long time ago." Said a resident.

"You thief, you are the one at fault here! Why are you accusing someone you stole from?!"

The residents who previously seemed like they were going to blame her father now sided with him. The thief was caught and handed over to the guards to be taken to prison.

"That... Thank you." His father bowed and sincerely thanked the village chief and the residents.

"Oh, there's no need to be like that, sir. At first we were very surprised, but we all also know that you are a good person." Said the village head.

"That's right, sir. Thanks to you, my son recovered so quickly. We should be the ones thanking you." Another villager said.

The villagers began to talk about her father's kindness. A happy smile formed on his face.
