After Elizabeth said that the room went quiet, awkwardly quiet.
When Elizabeth was about to speak up to break the silence, a man beat her to it.
"So he is the head of research? What then becomes of me?" The man said with a grin.
After he said that there was visible tension in the room.
"Well it's not like that, you would still be his assistant." Elizabeth said try to soothe things between Dexter and the man.
"Really you want me to be an assistant, to a boy who hasn't even experienced the world." The man fuming.
Everyone else seems to back the man, they hated Dexter and wanted nothing to do with him.
Elizabeth wanted to speak up again but she was immediately shut down by Dexter who finally made a move.
"So you want to continue to be the head of research right?" Dexter said calmly.
"Of course I do, I don't want a teenager coming out of nowhere to ruin my research." The man said.
"Ok then how about we make a bet, your research on laser tech seemed to have hit a rock wall because of the energy problem am I right?" Dexter asked with a raised eyebrow.
The man didn't want to admit it but he still nodded his head.
"So here is how our bet is going to go, if I can find a solution to the problem in one week, you would have to resign from the project."
Ignorant, fool, Stupid and cocky those were the kind of words going through the minds of the researchers.
The man chuckled before going on to say, "Fine, I accept your bet, but what would happen if you can't?"
"Then I leave the research and it would be like I never came." Dexter replied.
The man couldn't help but laugh, it seemed like he was mocking Dexter.
"Seriously, you want to make a bet on those terms, you leaving the research doesn't change anything for you, you would just go back to that crummy facility you came from, but me leaving is more high stakes." The man then paused.
"So those are your terms, my terms on the other had are a lot different."
"Lets hear them." Dexter said with a calm smile.
"If I win I remain as the head researcher and you would have to become my personal assistant, if I loose I will resign, how do those terms seem to you?"
"Fine I accept your terms." Dexter said quite casually.
Elizabeth was stunned she walked up to Dexter hoping she could change his mind but it seemed he had already made up his mind on this.
He was quite confident in himself, which came as a surprise to Elizabeth, she knew how hard the researchers had been trying to get the solution to the energy problem, but if Dexter was this confident then he must have a solution.
While she was in thought she heard the man say,
"Oh, I hope you know that none of my researchers would be helping you on this bet."
Elizabeth was now furious after she heard him say that, "How do you then expect him to do if he has no help?"
"That is his problem, he is the one who asked for a bet." The man retorted and left with his researchers.
Dexter patted Elizabeth on the back as he went on to say,
"It doesn't matter I only need your help."
Then he handed her a list of materials for her to fetch for him.
"Do you really have a solution?" Elizabeth asked clearly she did not believe he had figured out something that the researchers have been researching for years in one day.
Dexter saw the disbelief on her face and just chuckled, "Get me the materials first and we will see."

Elizabeth was in her dad's office and she had already told him about how everything went down in the research facility.
"So does he actually have a solution or is just arrogance?" Patrick asked.
"I don't know, when it comes to him, he is just so casual and calm in his actions." Elizabeth said.
Patrick agreed with her on that, it was very difficult to read what was going on in Dexter's mind.
"Ok then, we would get him the materials he needs, we have spent so much on the project, I reckon we can spend a little more." Patrick said
Then she gave his daughter a credit card to by the materials with.
"One week that is all he's got, I hope you can let him know that he should make it count." Patrick said as he saw his daughter off.
"Dexter, Dexter, Dexter, what are you really up to." Patrick said with a shake of the head and went back to work.
