Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

"Attack! Helicopters, cover the ground units!" Ross grabbed his walkie-talkie and shouted the order.

After giving the command, Ross quickly withdrew to the rear.

A gentleman does not stand under a crumbling wall—and a commander should never stand on the front lines. An unwritten rule.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Handguns, rifles, machine guns, and Gatling guns roared as the gunfire filled the sky. Bullets poured down like a torrential rain, hammering relentlessly at Lu Yi, as though trying to turn him into a sieve.

When you want to study someone, they don't necessarily need to be alive. They can be dead—or even just a few drops of blood and tissue could be enough.

So they didn't care whether Lu Yi lived or died. They didn't care if he remained unharmed or exploded into pieces.

The barrage lasted for more than thirty seconds, bullets spewing wildly until nearly all magazines were empty. The barrels of the Gatling guns glowed red-hot, radiating heat into the cold air.

That was when the firing finally ceased.

But the next moment made every soldier feel as though they had been dumped naked into the Arctic—exposed, vulnerable, and terrified.

Lu Yi stood there completely unscathed—not a single mark on his skin, not even a wrinkle in his clothes.

The only thing at his feet was an ocean of spent bullets—piled so densely that anyone with even mild claustrophobia wouldn't dare look twice.

Horrifying.

Utterly terrifying.

The air turned cold as ice. The entire street fell into absolute silence.

Clang!

No one knew which soldier dropped his gun, but the clatter shattered the silence like a stone breaking glass.

"He's a devil! A monster!"

"I want to go home—I'm done being a soldier!"

"Damn it! Has the commander lost his mind? He sent us to fight… that?"

"Hell no! I refuse to sit here and wait to die—I'm running!"

Sometimes, a military's morale collapses quicker than anyone could imagine. One moment they are brave and disciplined—the next, they crumble into chaos and fear.

Everyone had seen the bullets hit Lu Yi—clearly, directly, even into his eyes. But they had done—nothing. The bullets simply shattered upon impact, unable to cause the slightest bit of harm.

Ross, who was retreating, saw it too—and sucked in a sharp breath. The sight was too terrifying—almost divine, almost demonic.

But Ross wasn't ready to give up. He had seen Lu Yi's terrifying power, and he had seen the value of the weapon and super soldier he represented.

He refused to let that go.

"Fire the missile!" Ross gritted his teeth and screamed into the walkie-talkie.

"But sir! This is the city center—"

Missiles were a last resort—not meant to be used in urban areas. If they had been allowed, they would have used them on the Hulk and Abomination long ago—instead of letting them run wild.

"Follow orders, soldier!"

"Yes, sir!"

The helicopter pilot didn't argue again. Once locked onto Lu Yi, a hatch opened, and a red button was pressed.

A compact missile detached from beneath the helicopter—streaking through the air with a fiery orange trail, heading straight for Lu Yi.

Lu Yi, of course, noticed.

The moment the missile fired, his gaze snapped toward it—sharp and cold.

"You dare launch a missile in a busy city? Ross—are you trying to lose your rank?"

Lu Yi's eyes narrowed.

This time—he would not simply endure.

The explosion wouldn't just harm him—it would obliterate everything within a ten-meter radius, and the shockwave would devastate far beyond that.

But the worst part?

Behind him… was his home.

Now just rubble—but still salvageable. Especially since he now wielded magic.

If it were to be completely destroyed, fixing it would be far more troublesome—even with magic.

Better to avoid that entirely.

Lu Yi raised his hand—and flicked his fingers lightly.

A streak of magical light shot from the tip of his wand, striking the missile mid-flight.

Something… changed.

In that instant, Lu Yi's body lifted sharply from the ground—he shot through the air like lightning—appearing beside the missile.

He kicked it.

With one swift strike, the missile was sent flying—like a comet—vanishing from sight.

Gulp.

The sound of swallowing echoed through the entire block—far louder than it should have been.

"Boom!"

Before anyone could react, a thunderous explosion lit up the sky.

A massive fireball blossomed high above—casting bright light across the city.

But there was something strange.

It didn't emit scorching heat. It didn't unleash a destructive shockwave.

Instead—it sparkled.

Colorful.

Brilliant.

Like fireworks—

Fireworks.

That was the first thought that surfaced in everyone's minds.

Their jaws fell open.

They stared at the sky in disbelief.

"We can't let them run away that easily."

Looking at the foolish soldiers below, Lu Yi slowly raised his arms and drew perfect, elegant circles in the air.

The swirling fireworks above began to twist, rotate—and fuse—forming a radiant dragon made of light and fire.

Lu Yi flicked his hand downward.

The firework dragon roared and dove—descending upon the panicked soldiers.

"No!"

"Help!"

"Run! A demon!"

"Mom, I want to go home—I don't want to be a soldier anymore!"

The terrified soldiers screamed, cried, threw down their weapons—and ran for their lives.
