Chapter 17 - Chapter 18

Beep! Beep! Beep…

Inside a special department room at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, a large instrument suddenly emitted a harsh alarm. Accompanied by the piercing sound, the lights in the room began to flicker abnormally. Red warning lights replaced the regular lamps, flooding the room with an intense glow.

"What happened?"

A man who appeared to be the supervisor rushed in anxiously from outside, sternly questioning the sweating researchers who were frantically adjusting the equipment.

This newly established department had no other responsibilities, but it was the most important one—and absolutely could not afford any errors.

"Boss, target locked!"

"What? Are you sure?" The supervisor was stunned.

It was just a target out on a hunt—normally nothing worth special attention.

But this one was different. He had been listed as an Extremely Dangerous Individual by the director. Compared to him, terrorists were insignificant.

Someone like that would naturally be treated differently when moving outside. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "care" for him was even more thorough than for their own agents.

According to what he knew, aside from the monitoring team, there was also an emergency-response team specifically created just for him, meant to help resolve any problems he encountered—and more importantly, to reduce the chances of him taking action.

In simple terms—

Treat him like your honorable ancestor.

Don't let him take action.Don't let him get angry.

"Where did the target go?" the supervisor asked anxiously.

"Not exactly sure! But based on the trajectory, likely outside the city!"

"Outside the city?" The supervisor exhaled in relief, then asked, "Did he do anything unusual?"

"Yes!"

That single word instantly erased any sense of relief.

Holding a metal box, he asked, "Sir, do you think we should report this?"

"Of course we should report it! Keep monitoring closely. I'm going to inform the director!"

"Yes, sir!"

But the supervisor didn't hear the response—he had already left to report the situation.

Inside Director Nick Fury's office, the supervisor delivered his report. After listening, Fury felt deeply uneasy. He immediately turned on his computer and pulled up the target feed.

Lu Yi appeared on the screen—not at home, but moving through the air at high speed.

What was even more eye-catching was that Lu Yi was carrying a metal box as tall as a person. No one knew what was inside. He seemed unusually cautious with it, as though it was extremely important.

"Do you know what's in that box?" Fury asked with a dark expression.

"I don't. I came too quickly and didn't have time to have my men scan it with the instruments," the supervisor said awkwardly.

Whenever they monitored Lu Yi, they never used ordinary equipment. Instead, only cutting-edge black tech was used.

This particular system was linked to three military satellites, and alone cost more than $200 million. It had multiple capabilities—identifying the contents of a box was easy for it.

"Why are you still here?" Fury snapped, glaring at the supervisor who always caused trouble yet couldn't solve anything.

How could someone have such advanced equipment… and still be this clueless?

Maybe it was time to find someone more competent.

"There's no need," the supervisor said, unaware of Fury's growing irritation. He glanced at the screen and froze.

"What now?"

"The target has started opening the box!"

While annoyed, Fury didn't seem surprised. His eyes returned to the monitor. Sure enough—Lu Yi was preparing to open the box.

Fury stared intently, observing every move, trying to understand what Lu Yi was planning.

He wasn't sure if it was an illusion caused by anger—but he seemed to see a brief, strange smile flash across Lu Yi's face.

When he looked again, the smile was gone—only Lu Yi's calm and serious expression remained.

Fury could only chalk it up to imagination.

He continued watching closely, determined to see what was inside that box.

Lu Yi did not disappoint—he generously satisfied Fury's curiosity.

Onscreen, Lu Yi placed his palm on one side of the metal container. With a faint metallic sliding sound—inaudible to Fury—the box opened. The place where his hand rested transformed into a door, revealing the contents inside.

"Why is that there?"

Fury jumped to his feet, unable to hide the shock on his face.

The contents were far too unexpected. If it was real—and not just a model—this could be disastrous.

But sometimes, the things you fear most…

Are exactly the things that become real.

The more Fury hoped it wasn't real…

The more likely it was.

On the screen, Lu Yi moved the object several times—and the object responded and moved as well.

At that point, there was no doubt.

Even an idiot could see—

It was real.
