Chapter 3 - Scaramouche — “Xianzhou General? Mere Vermin!”

"Ah?! He… she's here!"

"The companion named Nahida!"

March 7th stared at the screen as Nahida suddenly spoke, her face lighting up with excitement.

"If she can still send messages… does that mean her condition isn't too bad?"

Steluna silently wondered the same.

Lumine:

"Nahida?!"

"Are you alright?!"

"That bastard Doctor didn't do anything to you, did he?!"

Seeing Nahida's name appear made Lumine's heart race.

Nahida:

"Don't worry, Lumine."

"At least for now, I am still safe."

Her calm reply settled Lumine's nerves, if only a little.

Welt:

"That said… what exactly is this place?"

"Does anyone here understand its true nature?"

His message appeared, cutting straight to the core of the mystery.

Jing Yuan:

"I too would like to know."

"Is there anyone willing to enlighten us?"

Another name surfaced.

Welt:

"General Jing Yuan? I didn't expect to see you here."

"Even you don't know the origin of this… live room?"

His surprise was genuine.

The Luofu's renowned general.

One of the Seven Arbiter-Generals of the Xianzhou Alliance.

An Emanator of the Hunt.

And yet even he could not see through this phenomenon.

Did that mean this live room was, at the very least, the work of an Emanator-level being?

Jing Yuan:

"Mr. Welt, though it shames me to admit it… that is indeed the case."

Despite his words, he accepted it with characteristic grace.

Dr. Ratio:

"If even the illustrious General of the Luofu is left in the dark… how intriguing."

His interest was clearly piqued.

He could already sense it — this so-called Divine Plot Playback Live Room would stir waves across the cosmos.

Paimon:

"The famous Luofu general?"

"Is he really that well-known? How come Paimon's never heard of him?"

Lumine:

"Cough— Paimon, don't say that!"

"Sorry, General, my companion's just a little hungry… she didn't mean any offense!"

In reality, Lumine hurriedly tried to smooth things over.

With something this strange and powerful, offending the wrong person before understanding it could spell disaster.

Boothill:

"Sweet mother of shooting stars!"

"Even the Xianzhou general and you lot don't know him? What rock did you crawl out from?"

On his way to Penacony, Boothill couldn't help but chime in.

In his view, any civilization involved with interstellar travel knew of the Xianzhou Alliance.

Scaramouche:

"You dare call us backwater natives?"

"Are you looking for death?!"

At the brink of godhood and drunk on his own power, Scaramouche instantly snapped at the word "natives".

Boothill:

"You trigger-happy tin doll!"

"If you don't even know a Xianzhou general, what else are you supposed to be?"

"I'm just stating facts, so what's got your circuits all fried?"

He genuinely couldn't understand why this person named Scaramouche was so explosive over a single term.

"Lumine, did you see that?!"

"Scaramouche is in here too!"

Paimon's voice trembled with panic.

"Don't be scared, Paimon."

"He's way too arrogant."

"Who knows? Maybe someone in this live room can finally put him in his place."

Lumine, surprisingly, felt less uneasy now.

The more she observed, the more she realized how extraordinary this live room truly was.

Scaramouche:

"Xianzhou general? Hah! An unknown rat scurrying in the dark."

"Dare stand before me, and prepare to die."

Having never heard of the Xianzhou Alliance in all his travels across the Seven Nations, he dismissed it as some insignificant force.

Fu Xuan:

"Insolent! How dare you speak so disrespectfully of the General!"

"Once I divine your origin, I will have the Cloud Knights hunt you down!"

Within the Divination Commission, Fu Xuan finally broke her silence, fury blazing through her words.

She immediately began calculating… only to find nothing.

Not a trace.

Not a thread of causality.

"Damn it… this live room must be shielding him from divination! Otherwise, my calculations would never fail!"

She blamed the failure on the live room's interference, never once suspecting the truth —

that Scaramouche did not belong to this universe at all.

Jing Yuan:

"Master Diviner, there is no need for such anger."

"The universe is vast, and no law states one must know of the Xianzhou Alliance."

"But to this friend of the name Scaramouche — Xianzhou does not seek conflict, yet we do not fear it either."

"As General of the Xianzhou, I formally invite you to visit our ship-fleets."

"When that time comes, you will see with your own eyes whether the Xianzhou General is truly the 'insignificant vermin' you claim."

The tension lingered in the live room.

Arrogance met dignity.

Divinity brushed against starlight.

And the storm was only beginning.
