Click, the center of the poké ball display stand opened, and a poké ball with a lightning bolt symbol slowly rose.

Professor Oak solemnly flipped the switch.

Zzzzt~ A dazzling electric light flashed, and then a cute electric mouse appeared before Gary and the other two.

"This guy is called Pikachu, an electric mouse. Because it had some issues, it was left until last," Professor Oak explained to himself.

Gary silently took two steps back. A Pikachu fresh out of the starter village doesn't have the best temper... Ash, however, didn't care about anything and immediately gave it a bear hug: "Oh, is this Pikachu? You're so cute~ You're so fat..."

Pikachu: (???_???)? Who are you calling fat? Take this electric punch!

Zzzzt~ The dazzling electric light flashed again.

"Ah! Numb, numb, numb...!" Ash was instantly electrocuted, flailing his arms and legs.

Professor Oak calmly stood aside and explained: "Pikachu's personality is very shy. If you try to get close to it rashly, it will shock you~"

"Why didn't you say so earlier..." Ash finally recovered, one hand on Professor Oak's arm.

Pikachu's mouth curved upwards, not enough shock, it wanted to shock him again!

Zzzzt... This time, Ash and Professor Oak were dancing together.

Gary calmly smoothed his hair: "Eevee, come out, use Sand Attack!"

"Eevee!" The little Eevee skillfully jumped out of its poké ball, turned its body, and pushed off with its hind legs.

Whoosh... A cloud of sand condensed behind him, made of Ground-type energy, natural and harmless... Slap, as Eevee kicked, a cloud of sand directly hit Pikachu's face.

Pikachu immediately covered its face, stopping the Thunder Shock.

"Phew... Saved, it had to be my grandson." Professor Oak sighed in relief, then threw the Pokedex and poké balls to Ash.

"Ahem... Thank you, Gary..." Ash coughed out a puff of black smoke, taking his equipment.

"Alright, next up is the departure! I'm going to catch Pokemon now!" Picking up his poké ball, Ash felt invigorated again.

"I think it's better to prepare a bit more," Gary advised kindly.

"I'm already ready! What else is missing?!" Ash looked at Gary with passion.

"At the very least, you need to wear normal clothes and a pair of sneakers, running barefoot... it's a bit too..." Gary speechlessly pointed at Ash's attire.

"Uh..." Ash awkwardly scratched his head. He had just realized that in his rush, he had run to Oak Laboratory in his pajamas and barefoot.

"Everything should be planned before acting. Ash, you should really learn from Gary on this point," Professor Oak also chimed in with a lecture.

"I know, I know... Nagging..." Ash pouted. He didn't want to be lectured by Gary.

"Pika!" Just then, the Pikachu behind Ash moved.

The child bared its teeth at Eevee, clearly still upset about being hit in the face with sand earlier.

"Hey, Pikachu, what's wrong?" Ash scratched his head in confusion.

"I guess it's challenging my Eevee. What do you say, Ash, want to battle?" Gary beckoned to Ash with a finger.

Ash instantly got excited: "Alright, Pikachu, let's defeat Gary together!"

"Pika!" Pikachu twisted its little face, 'Don't get involved, okay!'

"Whatever, if you want to fight, just follow along." Gary took Eevee and led the way downstairs.

Pikachu immediately followed, and Ash, naturally, wouldn't be left behind, jogging all the way to the backyard.

The two sides spread out, and the friendly match was about to begin.

"Pikachu, this is our memorable first battle, let's defeat our opponent together!" Ash shouted spiritedly.

Bang! The next second, a bolt of lightning struck at Ash's feet.

"Pika Pikachu" Pikachu's expression, translated, meant: 'Less talking, if you make me mad, I'll hit you too...'

"How could this be..." Ash instantly lost his sparkle, squatting in the corner with his head in his hands.

"Little guy, quite the temper." Gary smiled. The current Pikachu had lived a leisurely life in Oak Laboratory for several years, even having a bit of baby fat.

As for its strength, one could only say it was better than nothing.

"Let's start!" Gary reminded.

"Eevee!" Eevee instantly lowered its body, entering battle mode.

"Pika!" Pikachu, with its short temper, couldn't hold back any longer and leaped up, unleashing a Thunder Shock.

"Eevee, Dig!" Gary was not flustered at all. Dealing with Pikachu now was not difficult.

Eevee pushed off with its front paws, instantly disappearing into the ground, leaving a hole.

"Pika?" Pikachu tilted its head. Where was Eevee? After a fruitless search, the unlucky child locked its gaze on Gary.

"What's up... You want to hit a person now..." Gary's mouth twitched. Why was this Pikachu so aggressive...

"Pika!" Just as Pikachu was about to rush up and give Gary electrotherapy, it was directly sent flying by a force.

"Eevee!" Eevee burst out of the ground, protecting its Trainer just in time!

"Eevee!" (._?v?v?.)! Eevee was angry. A fight is a fight, you can hit me, but you want to hit my Trainer? You've probably never been thoroughly beaten.

Boom! Before Gary could speak, Eevee sent Pikachu flying far away again with a Quick Attack.

Then, with a flick of its tail, a shower of golden stars shot out.

Rumble!! Pikachu was directly dazed by the combo, falling to the ground, unable to get up.

Even with that, Eevee wasn't appeased. It bared its teeth, ready to pounce and bite him a couple more times.

"Alright~" A pair of warm hands embraced Eevee.

"Eevee? Eevee Eevee!!" Eevee's body instantly became docile, and its two ears turned into airplane ears. It looked at Gary with a wronged expression, and impulsively swiped its paws several times in Pikachu's direction.

Gary understood. Eevee meant that it wanted to protect him, and it would absolutely not allow Pikachu's attempt to harm him, even with its gentle nature.

"Pikachu, are you okay?" Ash also picked up Pikachu with a pained expression.

Pikachu was weak at the moment, struggled a bit, and then just let Ash hold it.

"Don't worry, it wasn't too badly hurt. Gary called a stop in time," Professor Oak came over to check. "Eat something, rest a bit, and it will recover."

"Phew, that's great, thank you, Professor Oak." Ash nodded in thanks, then turned to Gary: "Gary, you win this time. Next time, Pikachu and I will win it back together."

Gary looked, the beginner's quest was completed, then nodded: "Alright, you're welcome to seek revenge anytime. But no crying if you lose."

"Hmph, you're the one who'll cry!" Ash's face flushed.

Just then, there was a commotion at the door. A cheering and drumming farewell party, led by Ash's mother, Delia, had arrived at the Research Institute's entrance.

Looking at his pajamas, then at the neighbors outside the door. Even a straightforward guy like Ash blushed. Oh my god! This was going to be social death today!

Gary smirked and nudged Ash: "Don't just stand there, show yourself, baby!"

With that, Gary kicked Ash out of the Research Institute, then closed the door.

Ash : (???⊿??)? Nooo~

"Hmph~ Done." Gary clapped his hands in satisfaction. Then he slung on his backpack.

Everything that needed to be done was done, it was time to officially set off.

"Gary~ Your twelve ex-girlfriends are blocking the back door, do you want to see them?" Professor Oak's voice rang out behind Gary.

Gary felt a chill down his spine, then he scrambled out the window and ran: "No need, Grandpa, let's keep in touch by phone. I'm off!"

Watching Gary's panicked retreat, Professor Oak also smiled: "This child, even when running away, he looks so handsome. Truly worthy of the Oak Family!"
