Chapter 40 - Chapter 40—“The Night of the Blue Ribbon”

Selene stood in the shadows outside the small house, her heart pounding.

At fourteen, she had already learned that hesitation meant death. 📌

Her orders from the Circles Gang were clear: take the child, make her useful, bring her back without leaving a trace.

The little girl in her arms was so small… only five years old, clutching the blue ribbon she always wore.

Selene's training had taught her to be cold, but her chest ached. 💔

"She reminds me of me," Selene whispered, almost to herself.

The older girl inside;the one with dark hair, her sister? She was screaming and crying, fumbling through the smoke and debris.

Selene paused, instincts warning her to stop, but she couldn't.

The Circles Gang had eyes everywhere. One mistake could mean death. ☠

She held the little sister tighter.

"You will be safe with me," she murmured.

Even as the child trembled, crying for Feriha, Selene whispered, "I am the only one you can trust now."

The van was waiting outside. Quiet, black, and ready to disappear. Selene climbed inside, clutching the child, while Feriha's cries faded behind her.

That night, a bond formed;not love, not family;but a connection born of control and twisted protection. 🚐

Selene didn't look back.

She couldn't. 😑

The world she had chosen,Circles Gang;was unforgiving. And the rules were clear: attachments were dangerous.

Yet, somewhere deep inside, a tiny ember of guilt glimmered.

A whisper in her heart that one day, the older girl would come looking, and Selin would have to choose: obedience… or the child.😣
