Chapter 17 - 17: The Fall of the Alpha's Heir

---

"You won't get the chance, Valerius," Kael replied, his voice calm amidst the chaos. "The humiliation is over. Now, you pay the price for the war you started."

The final confrontation between the Omega Host and the Alpha's Heir had begun, an explosive battle of strength against shadow, rage against cold calculation.

Lord Valerius, fueled by the savage **Berserker Aura**, was an eight-foot-tall behemoth of muscle and silvery-gray fur. He saw Kael as a ghost of his past, a weak creature that had defied him. He ignored the **Shadow Clone** and aimed his attack solely at the real Kael.

Valerius roared, charging with a terrifying speed that belied his size. He was a living battering ram, intending to crush Kael with sheer force.

Kael did not stand his ground. He activated **Shadow Step** (Tier 3 Active).

*Flicker.*

Kael vanished, reappearing ten meters to the Alpha's left, entirely disrupting Valerius's attack vector. The Alpha slammed into the ground where Kael had been, creating a small, jarring tremor.

Valerius's golden eyes snapped toward Kael. He charged again, faster this time, his movements driven by primal rage.

Kael did not use Shadow Step this time. He held his ground, manifesting the **Shadow Construct Maul** and bracing for impact.

**The Strategy: Drain the Aura**

Kael knew the Berserker Aura made Valerius immune to Essence spells and magical manipulation, but it relied on a constant, aggressive surge of Mana and emotion. Kael's plan was to use his **Shadow Echo** passive skill to consume the mana fueling the Aura, and his massive Endurance (34) to withstand the physical blows.

Valerius's massive fist, powered by the Berserker state, struck Kael's left shoulder.

*B-A-A-N-G!*

The impact was bone-jarring. Kael's body absorbed the immense force, his Endurance holding against the crushing blow.

But the moment of contact triggered the **Shadow Echo**.

[HOSTILE ESSENCE CONTACT DETECTED. INITIATING SHADOW ECHO.]

An instant, massive wave of Essence-draining energy exploded from Kael's shoulder, focusing directly onto Valerius's core.

Valerius shrieked, not from pain, but from confusion. His Berserker Aura, which relied on an endless supply of volatile Mana, suddenly choked and stuttered. He felt his raw power being violently sucked away by the contact.

The Berserker Aura flickered, weakening for a vital second.

Kael exploited the opening, unleashing his **Shadow Maul** with full Strength (25) into the Alpha's exposed flank.

*CRACK!*

The blow was brutal, shattering Valerius's hardened ribs and staggering the Alpha.

**Phase Two: The Clone Diversion**

The Shadow Clone, which had been standing passively, now moved, following Kael's mental command. It manifested a heavy, black **Shadow Construct Chain** and wrapped it around Valerius's legs.

The clone, possessing only 50% of Kael's stats (Strength 12), could not hold the Alpha, but the distraction was perfect.

Valerius roared, ripping the chain apart with a surge of renewed Mana, but the effort further drained his Berserker Aura. He was losing energy with every second of contact.

Kael used the chance to retreat a short distance, giving his core time to regenerate the Essence he spent on the Maul and the Shadow Step.

Elder Maeve, watching the fight from the perimeter, was stunned. Kael was not just surviving; he was dismantling Valerius's core power.

"He is consuming the Aura! He is forcing the Alpha to destroy himself!" Maeve realized, her voice thick with awe.

Valerius, his Lycan pride wounded, made a catastrophic mistake: he lunged at Kael again, attempting to end the fight with a single, devastating body slam.

Kael waited until the last possible moment.

*Flicker.*

He activated Shadow Step, vanishing just as Valerius hit the ground. The Alpha, unable to stop his momentum, crashed into a defensive position of the Witches, shattering a runic stone and releasing a torrent of destabilized Essence.

Valerius was now critically weakened, his Berserker Aura nearly depleted by the continuous Echo feedback.

Kael reappeared behind the Alpha, his Shadow Maul ready.

"You failed, Valerius," Kael stated, his voice devoid of emotion.

He raised the Shadow Maul for the final, decisive blow.

Meanwhile, Lianna, seizing the distraction Kael had created, was racing toward the most sacred and heavily guarded structure in the Sanctuary: the **Oracle Stone Chamber**.

The Chamber was located deep beneath the Weaving Grove, protected by two ancient Sentinel Witches.

Lianna arrived, her breathing ragged. She found the two Sentinels standing rigidly at the entrance, their staffs crossed.

"Halt, Apprentice Lianna," one Sentinel commanded. "No one may pass while the battle rages. The Oracle Stone must remain untouched."

"Elder Maeve's orders!" Lianna gasped, using her knowledge of the Coven's chain of command. "Kael Vale is fighting Valerius. He requires the **Coven Scepter**—the rod that holds the key to stabilizing the Nexus! It's the only way to end the war without total destruction!"

The Sentinels hesitated. The preservation of the Nexus was the Coven's ultimate law.

"The Scepter… it is forbidden!" the second Sentinel whispered, confusion warring with duty.

"The threat is existential! Valerius is breaking the Wards!" Lianna insisted, her tone desperate. "Maeve ordered me to retrieve the Scepter and bring it to the battlefield for the final seal!"

Convinced by the urgency and the weight of Maeve's name, the Sentinels slowly uncrossed their staffs.

"Hurry, Apprentice. Do not touch the Stone itself," the first Sentinel warned.

Lianna rushed into the chamber. The Oracle Stone was a massive, obsidian monolith, covered in glowing, alien runes—the language of the First Races.

Lianna ignored the Stone and looked for the Scepter. There was no Scepter.

She turned back to the Stone, realizing the truth of Kael's prediction.

"The Scepter… it's a lie!" Lianna whispered in horror. "The Stone itself is the **Activation Key**!"

She reached out, hesitantly touching the runes. The moment her hand made contact, a burst of terrifying, alien knowledge flooded her mind. She saw the mechanism of the Dimensional Lock, the failure of the First Races, and the truth about Kael's System.

[LORE DATA ACQUIRED: THE ORACLE STONE IS THE ACTIVATION RUNE.]

Lianna quickly retreated, knowing she had seconds before the Sentinels realized the deception. She had the knowledge, but Maeve would never forgive her.

Back on the North Watch battlefield, Kael prepared to end the fight. Valerius, weakened and disoriented, could barely stand, his Berserker Aura completely extinguished.

Before Kael could swing the final blow, Maeve rushed forward, her staff glowing with absolute defensive power.

"Stop, Kael! You cannot kill the Alpha's Heir! It will be a blood war for generations!" Maeve pleaded. "We need leverage, not annihilation!"

Kael paused, the Shadow Maul hovering centimeters from Valerius's skull.

He looked at Maeve, his eyes cold. He needed a victory, but he also needed the political capital.

"Submission, then," Kael growled.

He brought the Maul down, not to kill, but to **shatter**.

*K-R-U-N-C-H!*

The blow struck the ground next to Valerius's head, the resulting shockwave—powered by his Essence—forcing the weakened Alpha to collapse into a submissive posture. Kael then manifested a dense **Shadow Construct Shackle**, locking Valerius's neck and wrists.

The Alpha's Heir was bound, defeated, and humiliated.

The Lycan Beta warriors, seeing their leader captured and subdued by the silent, terrifying Omega, immediately lost their fighting will. The Berserker Aura contagion ceased. They dropped their weapons and retreated in panic, carrying their wounded.

The Battle of the North Watch was over. Kael had won.

[QUEST OBJECTIVE: NEUTRALIZE LORD VALERIUS. COMPLETE.]

[OMEGA POINTS GENERATED: 5x OMEGA POINTS.]

[OMEGA POINTS: 5]

The Witches cheered, their exhaustion forgotten in the wave of unexpected victory.

Maeve looked at Kael, then at the captured Valerius, her face filled with complex emotions—relief, respect, and deep, abiding fear.

Kael ignored the praise. He looked toward the Oracle Stone Chamber, sensing Lianna's sudden, rapid return.

Lianna burst onto the battlefield, her face flushed with adrenaline and panic. She rushed to Kael.

"Kael! I got the data! The Oracle Stone is the Key! But Maeve knows I lied!" Lianna whispered urgently.

Kael looked at Maeve, who was now slowly turning away from Valerius, her eyes fixing on Lianna's guilty expression.

"Lianna," Maeve stated, her voice slow and heavy with disbelief and fury. "You betrayed the Coven for the Void Lord."

The political consequences of Kael's plan had just landed.
